Competition maybe? Your stores have you by the short hairs and know it??
I know it sure doesn't cost that much difference to ship to Australia.

of course, half the resmeds are *made* in australia and shipped up here... the other half are made close by there.

Yeah, I was thinking about that when I typed what I did but since it was a Respironics discussion didn't bring it up.
I know people have to make money to stay in business but geez do they have to make it all off one poor person.
Reminds me of when I was truck shopping back in 2000 for a brand new truck. I knew exactly what I wanted and I called up 3 dealers who I know had on the lot a truck that would meet my criteria because I had been on the lot and test drove what I wanted.
I called them up and said "you get one chance to get my business..give me you best cash price" for so and so.
Dealers number 1 and 2 came within $100 and to be fair the one with the $100 more had one additional feature that the other truck didn't have but it was a feature I didn't think I particularly needed (big mistake on my part on that choice ).
Dealer number 3...was $10,000 more for the same specs. I said WTF....when I said I have quotes so much less for the same thing I was told "well maybe you didn't know what you were driving and it wasn't 4X4." Hmm...tell me I don't know what I was driving when I can see the 4 X 4 button quite clearly. You can imagine how well that went over...I won't ever in my life give that dealership one dollar of my business.

Dealers 1 and 2 made money...I know that and accept it but they didn't try to make their profit goal for the month/week/whatever out of just me. Dealer #3 got greedy.

Same with cpap/apap machines...some places are greedy and they can get away with it and some are happy with less profit.
When I was first DME shopping for cpap I was quoted $2700 for ResMed S8 brick...that was their cash price....no mask or anything like that.
Now I know I had insurance and final cost wouldn't be that but they didn't know that. I just wanted to see if they were greedy or not. Greedy people don't earn my business.

I did the conversion. AU$2000 is approx US$1520. You're paying triple! If you buy one from here and have it shipped, you will need to change the plug or use an adapter. The voltage itself is not an issue.

If you're interested I still have another one that I would be willing to ship to you as long as you cover the shipping charges

Anyone wondering....USPS (postal service not the brown truck) postage to Australia is roughly $75 to $85 US depending on weight and size of box and any extra insurance.
I have recently mailed 2 PR System One machines to Australia is how I know this. Not sure about the DreamStation because I haven't seen it for box sizing but I suspect the price will be similar.

The box for the Dreamstation is pretty much identical to the System One it replaced.
