Hey Julie, was that meant for me? If so, Thanks! Much of my impairment was in thinking when there was no visual. With written words to keep me on track I could make sense, but not in conversation. Couldn't remember from one phrase to the next what was being discussed and as a result said a lot of disjointed stuff that made no sense. Tried to keep pen and paper in my hand during talks and would write key words as we went along to help me. If one only heard me talk, they'd likely think I had some sort of dementia. At my worst, people at work were quoting conversations they had with me that I had no memory of. My ability to still communicate in writing saved my sanity.

Oh I can't imagine having to do that (tho' probably should some of the time ), having to keep track of it all by writing it down, but good for you for doing that... it sounds like a classic exercise in mindfulness, but I bet you'd rather not have to do it. Talk about brain training!

Fortunately I'm not nearly so bad these days. Even felt comfortable enough to get on the city bus here in Los Angeles a few times with no notes to follow step by step. Found out I'd gotten a bit too cocky. I would still describe myself as a bit scatter brained, which I never used to be, but no longer have to depend on notes to converse. Life is good.

Lacking MRI visual evidence, perhaps a clue may be seen on the post-mortem.

Is a Neuropsychological Test the normal thing to do with OSA patients when simple MRI technique does not show up damages in one of the following areas ? If yes, then does anyone know some research results using Neuropsychological test on OSA ?

- White matter integrity
- Mammilary body
- Hippocampus
- Insular cortex
- Blood-brain barrier

To my knowledge none of that is normally done... not unless a particular OSA patient shows unusually severe cognitive problems which may also be due to other things and they want to see if they also have e.g. Alzheimer's. People can ask their doctors for a much simpler in-office cognitive screening similar to or the same as what would be done if looking for Alzheimer's, whether their GP administers it or a neurologist on referral. But once most of us are on Cpap, while we still may make some exceptions for what we feel are ongoing cognition problems or aging, I haven't heard of anyone undergoing what you list - certainly not MRIs - just because they have OSA. Cpap usually takes care of most of the brain fog we might have had prior to being on it. If you're asking all this from a purely 'interested' and naturally curious place, sure, why not, but if you're getting carried away making a mountain out of a run-of-the-mill case of OSA, why?

I wonder if there is some EEG or someone to measure brain wave during such a cognitive assessment ? Or it's only like an exam where I need to do my best with my brain, then there's some validation to see if I have already done my best or not ?
