CPAP use won't magically make you lose weight. You have to eat less and/or exercise more, that's the only way.

It's not ignorant. I lost 40lb that way. Calories in/calories out. It really is that simple. You want to believe it's complex and you need to follow whatever the latest fad is, by all means, whatever works for you.

science, it's a thing, you should investigate it some day.

"calories in/calories out" is only accurate if one is talking about a test tube where someone burns things.

human bodies are a tad more complex, with things called hormones and metabolism and other complicated big words.

here, go watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F5o0a4p_3U you might learn something.

Low carb? No thanks. I'm within the normal weight range for my height. I stay that way by keeping track of calories and getting a lot of exercise. I eat plenty of carbs. I especially like cookies!

Find your BMR and daily caloric needs then cut from there to lose weight, there are online calculators that can make it really easy. http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

You can eat purely junk food and still lose weight if you burn more than you intake. http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/tw ... professor/ Not that this is very good for you, but it's the point that it's not about what you eat but how much you eat.

Not everyone does well on the low carb thing. I need carbs or I get in a really bad mood. Seeing your posts on here, palerider, I might suggest you go have yourself some cookies or cake or something, you might feel less bitchy.

well, I'm glad you're happy in your little 'reality', good on you not letting facts deter your opinions.

Don't be too hard on him, Uncle_Bob, the lack of carbs makes him cranky and confused.

The Rolls Royce analogy fails because of the whole "Status Symbol" notion. Putting any social judgement of "Status Symbols" aside, it's hard to imagine that anybody could say "I use a [so-and-so] CPAP machine," and possibly impress anybody!

. . . Kind of like the difference between collectors and hoarders?
Collections are built to impress; hoards happen because of compulsion.
Now, inventory is something else entirely. It's either business or altruism.

At first I gained weight on CPAP because it controlled my GERD better and I could eat more comfortably. BUT, it also allowed me to feel better in general, and then when I did adopt a better diet (LCHF in my case) I lost a LOT of weight--75lbs. and I've kept it off more than 5 years now.

CPAP does not magically make you lose weight, but without apnea you are not bathing in stress hormones all night long, so weight loss efforts, whatever they may be, have a chance of success. In addition, there might be some improvement in metabolic issues because better sleep means more normal levels of hormones involved with hunger and satiety (leptin and ghrelin) and insulin. So that supports weight loss as well.

In my first eight months on cpap, with no other changes, I lost 8 pounds.
If that had continued, I would be underweight now.

Wow, the Rolls Royce thing was an analogy. Lot's of bitter angry people on this site. Shame because there is some decent info here that people need. Don't need Facebook for sleep apnea. Color me gone.

The Rolls Royce analogy might have gone over better on a Brit. forum. Cadillac or Lincoln might have been less incendiary candidates. But yeah, if you're perturbed by the response to your thread, and, the general tone here, it's probably prudent that you retreat. Good luck. PS: I think the AirFit F10 is a great full face mask. >> https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
