The need for derivatives (massive levels of bond insurance) is the hallmark of a TOTALLY CREDIT-BASED INTERNATIONAL MONETARY SYSTEM, which is always and everywhere a ponzi scheme. It is absolutely true that massive levels of debt caused the financial crisis. But this credit based monetary system is the SOURCE of all these trillions of counterfeit credit. The Federal Reserve did not create this, but tried to bail it out many times recently. I have read descriptions of FED papers from the 1950's and 1960's that documented the concern about this bogus US dollar denominated fledgling credit system and Fed governors were worried at the time that there would come a time when it needed to be bailed out. They should have stopped it when they had a chance. This system is generally referred to as Eurodollars, off-shore dollars, or shadow banking. Of course ponzi schemes can go on for a long time, but this one is nearing it's end.

When this system finally collapses completely, hundreds of trillions of paper wealth is going to go up into thin air, exactly where it came from. Because it was never real money to begin with. It will be absolutely beyond the scope of all Governments to bail it out. One bubble begets another until you finally get the super bubble that I like to call the government finance bubble. This is about to find it's pin and the creeping 1930's style depression we have now (US GDP is only about 1% or less) is going to turn into something many times worse than the Great Depression. I don't pretend to know exactly how or when this will happen, but, as a serious student of Economics, I can tell you it will be a real mess!

Yep. That's been regurgitated by the extreme right since we went off the gold standard.

I'd suggest investing in precious metals, canned goods and batteries for your cpap!

Have a good night.

Sounds like it's from The School of Commonsense, they don't give Liberal Art Degrees. Jim

The good thing, the more the Socialists screw up our country, the fuller our basket gets. It's almost reached critical mass, just about ready to spill over. Then maybe the U.S.A., does have a chance to become great again, it's still going to be a uphill climb, carrying a lot of dead weight. Jim

Said every republican when carter was elected a half century ago.

(As a reminder, red states are dead weight on federal budgets)

I wonder if any of the pea-brained, non-millionaire Republican Teabillies on here actually realize that....given free rein, the GOP'ers would snatch away and kill their SS and Medicare benefits with a loud sucking sound that'll make their clueless heads spin clean off their necks. IT IS through the tireless efforts of the "libtards" that you are still receiving these payouts from Uncle Sam. Nothing like inbred hillbilly Republicans protesting the govt. while firmly ensconced on the Welfare roles. Real genius at work there !

Those who are dyed in the wool tea party Republicans won't have a clue what you are talking about, and will refute you on every point. Do you really think they would accept that "liberals" are the reason for their Social Security and Welfare? They wouldn't even allow the thought for a nano second. They will continue to believe the conspiracy theorists, and scream at the "socialists" until their last breath.

I wonder if Hillary will wear a long or short gown for her Inauguration? I'll bet she is having it made right now.

Easy: how about the killing of innocent babies thru abortion, and calling it a choice? Refute that!
