hello,
its late and i want to sleep. didnt hang hose long enough to dry so i figured id hook it up to the machine to dry as its worked before. problem is, i filled up humidifier with distilled water and left it blow, forgetting the water is in there, i turned it on. there was tap water in the hose when i hooked it up so now i dont know what to do. is it safe? help?

OMG....It's Water ! Why are you afraid of it?

Why are you washing the hose anyhow... it doesn't get dirty just having filtered air blown through it in one direction all the time - lots of us never bother for years. Really.

Only if you stopped using it for some time, but if you use it every night, mold etc. doesn't have a chance to take hold and you'd see anything if it did, at which time you could choose to clean it with a little vinegar mixed into water. Most people here use humidity at some time, but don't have a problem.

NO! If "something" is going to grow, it has to come from "somewhere". That means it would be coming from your dwelling (bedroom) where you're breathing unfiltered air the other hours when you're not using your machine. Distilled water is not a good environment for things to grow. AND.......whatever may get into the water would have to make it through the air intake filters. If it does make it past the air intake filters, it would then fall into the HH tank water and stay there. Water vapor molecules are too small to carry anything (including viruses and bacteria) out of the HH tank.

It's not logical. And, you're introducing more unfiltered air into the equipment every time you take things apart to clean them.
If you insist on cleaning your equipment, do it in the evening before going to bed. That way, any remaining moisture would be added to the humidified air coming out of the HH tank.

would it? how long does it stay wet in there? besides, it's a dynamic system, the water doesn't just poof into existence and sit there, providing a nice incubator, it moves around, and that spot that a droplet was on dries...

oh, and then, when you take your mask off, your machine, being a resmed, continues running for a while to cool down the humidifier and dry the hose *every day*.

so, your "fears" are overblown

Oh, if you're speaking to me, I have no "fear" (I'm not the OP). But I am gathering information to decide if I'll clean it or not. I'm told by Resmed/doctor/therapist to clean it every week, but I'm really looking for excuses NOT to clean it every week (it's a hassle and I'm lazy).
I kind of agree that there's minimal risk in not cleaning, but I do think that it's not as clean/sterile environment as some of you think it is (The filter is not perfect, for example).

And if it needs cleaning every week, why not twice per week? Or every day? Or set an alarm and clean it midway through the night and again the next morning?

And, for the REALLY OCD crowd........every hour. You just never know what may be crawling around in there!

The more you clean this "stuff", the faster it'll wear out.......which is an income source for the people who manufacture and sell this "stuff". It's in their financial interests for you to wear it out and buy more "stuff".

If the filter is not perfect, it is simply letting in room air that you breath all day long without filters.
