My first post... I was looking for improvements on my prototype swinging arm gantry to keep the hose as vertical as possible, especially when side-sleeping away from the machine. I had previously bought the most common/popular metal arm but it was insufficient in a number of ways: I have a thick mattress, so it was not tall enough; I have an adjustable bed, so no good there; there was the occasional clanking on the back of my head against the metal (not exactly a concussion or bruise, but just an irritable reminder that I was married to the machine); and reinstalling the gantry "pole" was an extra step while changing the sheets.

So I created my own gantry from readily available shelf parts: a flag-pole holder found in any hardware store; a short piece of PVC; a pair of key-chain retraction tools (i.e. CozyHoze by Boss); and an extra nut or two. Tools needed: a battery operated drill with basic bits. Note: upon the realization that I was going to be married to this machine for the remainder of my life, there was little hesitation in deciding to drill a white piece of plastic into my mahagony headboard. (Granted, it was faux mahogany anyhow.)

So far, it has worked splendidly for over a year now. The only thing that it lacks is a touch from Martha Stewart (PVC does not touch up well but alternatives are not out of the question.)

I was wondering, if enough folks wanted a variant of a gantry system (and I've seen that a lot of folks have put extra effort into setting up their CPAP "nightstand"), would anyone want to know about the set-up my gantry. This is not a commercial enterprise... just happy to share. Will try to attach a pic.

For some years now I have been using 3m command w/small wire hooks. Placing the hose thru a hair scrunchy and the scrunchy onto the hook. Squeezing the wire hook helps to hold on to the scrunchy nicely. I keep several of the hooks with my travel bag to use and some painters tape should that be needed.

Very small and unobtrusive but also very affordable and can be easily found at Amazon, HD, Target, and truck stops among many other places.

While out of town for a professional symposium, I realized that I had forgotten
my travel hose management devices.
A quick trip to the dollar store got hair scrunchies and cheapie duck tape.
I made a hose leash out of duck tape and a scrunchie,
and stuck the end of the tape to the motel headboard.
It peeled off without a mark at the end of the conference.
Had the tape left residue, it could have been removed with a dab of lotion and a tissue.

I certainly didn't mean to stir up old rivalries. What works for me isn't going to work for the next person... or it might, so they visit these forums.

My swinging gantry wasn't inspired by economy, even though it is very inexpensive. It was inspired by what I felt were inadequacies of off-the-shelf products. I had previously bought a number of other products to help me be more comfortable with the overall system, particularly the hose. The gantry I made was to serve MY particular needs. Granted, not all of us have the same needs; some of our sleep issues are not limited to apnea alone. I only posted "my solution" for others that might have similar needs/requirements.

Obviously my system is not for travel but my experience is that the higher my compliance with the system at home, the more I can deal with a night or two on the road with less equipment, INCLUDING tucking the hose under the arm. It's not my favorite approach, but it's good enough for short trips.

Reiterating, I just wanted to share something that was working for me, and I will continue to read others' post in search of newer/better ideas, which is what I thought this thread was originally about. There are no right or wrong answers, IMO.
