Do you know for sure your insurance requires your prescription to specify APAP? You can have the DME see if your prescription for CPAP is sufficient to cover what you want.

It may sometimes be harder in some places here, but I wouldn't blanket-statement quite so quickly. I didn't know one end of a machine, let alone auto from cpap, when I first started out, but was given a new auto and good explanation and that was 10 yrs ago.
Just saying .
Yeah, I guess it depends where you live, but over the years I've seen so many posts (like these) about it that it seemed like it was in so many places on your side of the border.

Go and talk to your GP (General Practitioner here in Australia). As a doctor he/she is qualified to write prescriptions for your sleep apnea. GPs tend to know very little about CPAP and will usually let you talk them into whatever you want. This is what I did to get a change of machine from my DME. As long as they're covered legally they don't care.
Then again, here in Australia I don't need a prescription to buy a machine.

My DME just called and they have the 'script for the auto I want!!! I'll get it tomorrow. You just gotta do your research, know what you want and demand it. Thanks y'all!!!

No, I'm in the states, just below DC.
There is nothing lower than D.C.
