As if CPAP isn't complicated enough, now we have him and her versions of some machines.

I remember up at the University of California Santa Cruz when my son graduated a decade ago, I went into the gender-free bathroom at the adjoining dormitory and was shocked to see a bunch of girls milling around in what I assumed was the men's room. There were no standup urinals and everybody just went into a semi-private stall and did their business. Anyway, I've been up there since and finally got somewhat used to it, however at a certain level it still rattles me psychologically (don't know where that story came from... sorry for the diversion!) Anyway, I guess things just change whether we want them to or not.

If you are going to buy a new XPAP, but are unsure of your real gender, as many here according to their profiles, which machine do you buy, and if later you do chose a gender you might be, can you trade it in for the correct one? Jim

Just reading the thread about the "for her" machine. There must be an opportunity for a joke in there somewhere. But it's beyond me.

Let's say that I have the machine. As a man, Do I experiment on myself with the for her mode? It says the mode was designed for women's breathing patterns. Where does it advise that men can try it as well?

There is so much hot air in his family, I doubt if he uses xpap. Jim

Someone posted this awhile back and I copied it for future reference.........

And in case of the For Her Mode that she is using it treats Apneas up to 12 cm pressure. This is from the manual.

The device analyzes the state of the patient’s upper airway on a breath-by-breath basis and delivers pressure within the allowed range according to the degree of obstruction. The AutoSet algorithm adjusts treatment pressure as a function of three parameters: inspiratory flow limitation, snore, and apnea.

The AutoSet for Her is similar to ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm with the following modifications:
· Reduced rate of pressure increments designed to help prevent arousals.
· Slower pressure decays.
· Treats apneas up to 12 cm H2O and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to 20 cm H2O.
