It's preferable and safer to attach the oxygen hose to a connector at the mask, not near the machine.
To attach it near an electrical/heated location could be a potential fire hazard.
Very simple and much cheaper. They typically look like these.

Maybe ResMed came up with a (expensive) heated hose with a connector, but I sure wouldn't want to use that setup.

I don't use oxygen, but I do keep a connector - such as the one pictured here - in my carrying case "just in case."

It's certainly safer if you're using a heated hose, as you don't have oxygen going through the hose next to the electric coils!

Some excerpts from:

http://www.cpap-supply.com/Articles.asp?ID=334

"The first option is to attach your oxygen tubing directly to your CPAP mask. Many CPAP masks have oxygen ports built into them specifically for this purpose. With a CPAP mask that has a built-in oxygen port, usually all you have to do - once you identify the oxygen port - is to remove the port cover and attach your oxygen tubing. See? Super simple. Once the oxygen concentrator is turned on, oxygen flows directly into the CPAP mask.

It should be noted that anytime oxygen is used with an electro-mechanical device like a CPAP machine, it's always a good idea to make safety a top priority. It goes without saying that you shouldn't smoke cigarettes or introduce any type of open flame in the environment around an oxygen concentrator. That's obvious to pretty much everyone. What might not be obvious, though, is the possibility of a CPAP machine being the catalyst for oxygen ignition. It's not likely for a CPAP machine to produce a spark that could ignite oxygen, but there are two precautions all CPAP and oxygen users should take, just to further mitigate any possibility of a fire."

Since I was initially prescribed additional oxygen with my therapy (and opted not to use it), I read up on this and kept finding the same type of recommendations.

SO, it's not MY "BS".
And, when I was in the hospital in 2011, the RTs didn't connect my oxygen hose at the machine.....they connected it at the end of the hose where it connects to my mask.

Oxygen, does NOT burn or ignite, Oxygen supports combustion, with out Oxygen there is no combustion.

When using a adaptor, use one with a built in check valve and vent to keep the O2 from backing up into your XPAP when it's not running. Most adaptors are the junk type with NO check valve and vent. Jim

Not entirely disagreeing, but.........
I happened to think of this situation.

From:

"The ignition source of the fire was determined to be electrical, and the fire spread rapidly due to combustible nylon material, and the high pressure, pure oxygen cabin atmosphere."

True, to have a fire you need Oxygen, Fuel, and a ignition source, take any one out of the equation, you have no fire. The more O2, in the mix the bigger the fuel in the fire burns, it also makes a fire more likely by lowering the ignition point of the fuel. The higher level of O2 the higher the temperature of the fire, and the faster the fuel can be burnt. Jim

SoClean CPAP Adapter for Respironics DreamStation

Use it to connect O2 to Dreamstation. Have a heated hose? Problem solved.

Again, that's the "SoClean CPAP Adapter & Diffuser for Respironics DreamStation and System One". Pick it up on Amazon for $20.

Cheers!

You are using this to hook to oxygen without the SoClean sanitizer?

Thanks

Finally, a legitimate use for something from the socrap company!
