I am torn on whether I'd really want to win that much or not. Can't imagine the tremendous added stress. However, I've read that the act of giving releases endorphins, so I can only imagine how good it would feel to give away that kind of money. That should offset the stress. Spent $10 last drawing - won back $5. Will try it again next one. I have a self imposed $10 limit.

Can you just imagine being in a position to give that kind of money away?? The faces of some of the children I see on TV comes to mind. I would gladly take on the stress of winning that kind of money! Family members first, a few dear friends, and then that money would go to every childrens' organization in the world that I thought to be reputable. Then to the homeless shelters, elders, animals, on and on. Of course, I would need to hire someone I could trust to get the money to the right places... but I already have that person(s) in mind. Oh yeah, I would buy myself a new car; a Toyota or a Honda would be lovely, and maybe I could find a place where they would make me 23 years old again.
My self imposed limit will be $10 also. I haven't played in 20 years so when I lose the $10 I'll just remind myself that half of it will go toward education in my state, at least I hope that's the case.
Such a nice dream... what is it now... 1.3 billion? Chances of winning... one in 999 zillion?

In the past couple of years several big Lotto Max winners in Canada have simply given it nearly all away to charity and research.

Anybody else feeling a little embarrassed that it's so big... I realize that gross excess is our biggest PR export, however this is getting ridiculous, especially considering how messed up this planet is getting (NTM, lots of its people).

First - congrats kteague, for being a winner! Always nice to break even
And Lucy-- wow.. the things you would do with the money are almost exactly what I would do, and in almost in the exact same order as you would (freaky! ) I would buy the car first, and it would be a Honda
I would start an organization that built community homes where siblings could be placed into foster care together, and not separated. As you can imagine (and some may have experienced) being separated from a parent is traumatic enough, and when you are then separated from sibling(s), the trauma is intensified in your life. A huge amount of emotional damage can be done to siblings who are separated in the foster care system, if they are not supported appropriately; this damage can sometimes last a lifetime. The foster care system in the state of Florida is understaffed, overwhelmed, under-budgeted, and needs an overhaul to become an effective system for at-risk youth. This is one area where I would like to help with my money

Nope- I'm not embarrassed at all; why should any
one of us try taking ownership for the actions of millions of others? (Tip, Sir- that's how depression/ anxiety can start to creep into our thoughts, if we allow it.) As your avatar picture implies, perspective is key
I choose to see this huge event as a group of people coming together in a way- who still choose hope, who are dreamers, and many who are doers of good-will, among other things. Granted there are people who play that are addicted to gambling; however that is their choice, not mine.
There are many of us, I'm sure, that rarely play the lottery yet enjoy the a little bit of the excitement when there's a super *big* jackpot- should we feel the same shame for playing as we do when we eat that extra scoop of ice cream we know is not good for our waistline? What competent adults choose to do with their money is truly their choice- not yours or mine, right? I think it's
absolutely terrific if you can allow yourself a little bit of a treat once in while and do something fun Try it - it works wonders for your emotional health, and it doesn't have to be expensive!
Sir - you refer to the 'planet and its people getting messed up'...uh, respectfully sir- none of us were born perfect and since no two of us are the same, technically one could say we 'are all messed up from the get go.' And isn't that wonderful?! Can you imagine living life if we all were the exact same people?

Maybe I'll laminate my lotto ticket and will it to my future grandchildren with a note that says, "The most amount of money your grandfather didn't win and that you didn't inherit -- get back to work!"

Yep- I heard that too on the news tonight. Also heard that 28 people matched all five of the white numbers on Saturday (last drawing), so they each won one million dollars, and three of those people did the Power Play, so they got two million each. Very cool for them

I'm buying tickets for tonight's drawing. Million would be very nice.
Good Luck to everyone Playing Tonight!

Never, it was a trick question, to pay it off first would require shutting down the U.S. Government first, they would just take that money and steal and or spend it too, just like they did with you Social Security money YOU paid in.

The federal government is estimated to spend $4.0 trillion this year. That is $1.0 billion every two hours and 12 minutes.

Yesterday, I saw two women walk into the U-Stop, one holding a white envelope.
I told hubby I bet it was an office pool. I was right. We got into the other line.
