4 years this last November

Best thing ever done for my health and for those who loved me and could see my downward spiral, despite my many excuses and hiding behind years of stubborn denile. I am so very grateful they never gave up on me and lovingly persisted until I could no longer fight them or the reality and damage of untreated OSA anymore.

Almost a year for me. I also should have had one years ago.

20 months! Still wiped out, still can't figure out how living with sleep apnea is better than dying from it.

Since 2008 - except for about one year when I decided I had enough. Original symptoms returned after losing weight so I had another sleep study. Went from severe to moderate (probably because of weight loss - now normal weight for my height). Successfully using machine for the past six months.

I credit my graduate school professor for encouraging me to seek out medical help after finding out that I was constantly falling asleep in different classes with different instructors. She even threatened dismissal from the graduate program if I did not seek medical help. I will never forget her help and did thank her after discovery of this insidious malady.

I was diagnosed and fitted with my first machine (A very simple Healthdyne CPAP) about 28 years ago. I am now on my fourth machine with about three years service from it. Only one machine totally died, and it had about six years of nightly service when it expired. Incidentally, my wonderful old Healthdyne is still quite serviceable and I use it to pump air through my hose and mask for drying after their weekly scrubbing. And I am now 85 1/2 and sleep well and feel great.

Still with the Swift FX, that was my second mask after a short stint with the Swift LT. DME didn't have the Swift FX in stock when I got my cpap machine, so started with the Swift LT for a couple of weeks.

Closest I came to switching away from the Swift FX was the AirFit P10, but the headgear just isn't stable enough for me, leaks kept waking me up. I did try the P10 for months, though, since it is quiet and light, but no go.
Hi RogerSC,

Based on your personal experiences, please explain why you switched from Swift LT to Swift FX? Is Swift LT considered less beneficial in term of comfortable compared to Swift FX?
Just caught up with this one. Nothing wrong with the Swift LT. In fact, I liked having the hose go over my head (this was before started to use a hose hanger). But it just had too much structure, more headgear than I wanted, not comfortable for me. So yes, I find Swift FX is lighter, less headgear, more comfortable. Just a personal choice, not a therapeutic choice. Like I said, if I could make the AirFit P10 work for me, I'd use that one...lighter and quieter is good, but not stable enough.

About 15 months collectively (explanation in my signature).
Fought masks & quit for ~18 months.
Restarted 7 months ago... Swift FX nasal pillows & chinstrap, now. One machine.

Since December 23, 2015. Today is two weeks.
First night I slept 2.5 hours with a full face mask. I felt like I was suffocating. Swapped mask the next day for a Swift Nasal Pillow.
Second night I slept 4 hours. Swift Nasal Pillow headgear kept sliding off my head. Swapped nasal pillow the next day for the Swift FX Nasal Pillow with the adjustible headgear.
Nights 3 through 13 slept between 7.5 and 8 hours.

The American Homepatient Rep called today to tell me that I am 94% compliant for my insurance!

I can honestly say that I feel much better than I have in a very long time, and each day seems better than the day before. I didn't realize how the lack of quality sleep was affecting me.

I've learned a lot from reading some of the posts from many long time CPAP users. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us newbies.

2 days.
So far I'm burping air and feeling slightly less dead, so I'm gonna keep going.

I started cpap on August 29, 2014, and have been 100% compliant ever since. Fortunately, I had no problems adapting to it. Like Pugsy and possibly others, I prefer to use a variety of masks- most often they include the nasal pillow types. I usually alternate between the Airfit P10, Swift FX, and Swift LT, as I find all of them comfortable and stable enough for me.

I started on April 15, 2010.
My current machine just passed 4000 run hours, and is mine, all mine!
--now that the capped rental is over. All my older machines still work.
I'm a little fickle, and I will not wait for something to die before replacing it.
--except for my husband--he's the last one I'll ever want.
