fisher paykel icon no power

Post by dennyh » Fri Dec 18, 2015 11:20 am

I have a fisher paykel icon series machine that has worked well for a # of years. This am I moved it to a another room plugged it in & it won't power up. I have disconnected the hose & removed the water chamber thinking it could be a noisture issue as-well-as disconnecting the power for a short time & reconnecting to see if it would reset. Neither of those have helped. If anyone has any suggestions on what I might do I would appreciate you assistance. Thanks in advance

First see if it works again in the orig. (or some other) outlet - the new one could be faulty.

But depending on its age and other things, maybe you need a new machine. At least let the DME look at it to see if anything's wrong (after checking the outlets at home).

I have this same machine and same issue. The last few times I traveled, it didn't power up when I get to my destination. I was able to get it working each time by just leaving it plugged in. Eventually it would come on, and no problems if it stayed plugged in. The last time I traveled it took over an hour for it to power up. Today I wasn't so lucky. It's been plugged in for 8 hours now, and still no power. I'm frantically trying to get a new machine before the weekend. It's worth a try to leave yours plugged in and see if it comes on.

My Icon started doing the same thing about a year ago (I've had it for maybe four years now). It would take anywhere from 1-3 hours to turn on. Recently tho, when I traveled, it wouldn't turn on at all.

I'm pretty sure the problem is moisture from the humidifier getting into the electronics. What I have to do now is remove the bottom plate (exposing the PCs boards) and blow a hair dryer on it for about 5-10 minutes. Eventually it will come back on. Specifically, it's the PC board in the back of the unit that's attached to the power cord (not the one in front attached to the control wheel).

If you end up having to do this, be careful with the T20 torx screws that hold the unit together. One of mine stripped and I ended up cracking part of the housing when I tried to get it apart. Fortunately I was able to superglue the damaged parts back together. But if you break it and you can't keep the unit under pressure, it won't work anymore.

Mine was out of warranty, so I didn't feel too bad taking it apart. But if yours is still under warranty, I'd recommend trying to get it replaced.

The fact that it can go for months without an issue as long as it stays plugged in tells me it's probably heat related, though I'm not sure how much it has to do with humidity. I hadn't thought to try a hair dryer. Too late now. Mine took a trip to the garbage. Good riddance.

Icon Died!
I followed an earlier post (Thank you russmak); removed the 7 screws from the bottom, gently pried it open, laid a hair drier (low heat) on a kitchen towel, pointed it at the circuit board by the power cord, let it run for 20 minutes. Reassembled the unit and Voile' ... Perfect. Works like new. My wife is impressed! It was moisture inside, evidently. Saved me a lot of money. Hope this helps. (Be sure to use the correct Torx bit to remove and reinstall the screws and Do Not Overtighten them. Just snug!)

But if it's not moisture (in someone else's machine), you could end up frying something... hopefully not yourself, or house!

Just a Fisher Pickle FYI. Two year free replacement warranty. Up to 5 years, flat replacement fee. F&P first 6 digits is the manufacture date. First two digits the year, then month, last day. Keep your purchase paperwork, If you or the DME has proof of purchase the warranty goes off that date, if not it will be the manufacture date.

Thanks to everyone for commenting about the condensation problem. I, too, returned from an airplane trip to find my Icon would not come on - no screen display; no nothing. As advised, I tried to remove all the screws and then the back plate, but one screw seemed to be stripped and wouldn't budge. I gave up, but my husband just took it outside as it was, turned it upside down, and left it all day out in the hot summer sun. I brought it in after dinner, turned it right side up and plugged it in. Nothing...for a couple of minutes...and then LIFTOFF. It's working normally now. Thank you so much to everyone! I never would have thought to do this on my own.

I have a Fisher Paykel - not certain of the model. but purchased around 2012. It goes completely dead, and then revives after several days of being plugged in. My concern is possible fire or other problem due to whatever is causing this peculiar problem.

Given the number of posts with similar problems I am going to call back Fisher Paykel on this one. I had called before but because the machine is no longer in warranty I did not get much help

I have an F&P from 1999 and another from 2005. When my Everest CPAP from 2009 broke, I was able to use the F&P from 2005 without incident, until my new CPAP arrived. It's still my spare!

The older F&P's were good machines, except for their bulky size. Not sure about the more recent ones.

Oops... just read this thread and thought I had better check my old F & P 604 brick that I got in 2010. It hasn't been used in over a year and very infrequently before that... to my surprise it started up just fine!!!!!!!! So, I guess I am fine with my trusty old back up brick..... I don't need a power outage to crop up and not know it won't power on Better stop calling it my "old brick" too, it just might decide to not work if I'm nasty to it
Cheers and thanks for the heads up guys.

Don't forget to use it (or run it without using it) for a few hours every week.
