Correct! After you answer the same thing a hundred times, you have to make it fun, it keeps your head from exploding. Jim

I don't think anyone has ever said or suggested that people shouldn't use Ramp if they felt the need to.
Yeah, (over the years) some of the replies to these polls and other questions have probably been a little "edgy", but I guess that's one way of having "fun" with them.
And, yes, the advice given here IS optional.......just like with doctors' prescribing medications.......the patient doesn't have to take them if they choose not to.
Glad you found the forum. Make yourself comfortable here. We're sort of like "family".

The auto-ramp feature on the Airsense 10 is always spot on for me. The only time it ever makes a mistake is if I get really relaxed watching TV in bed, and it starts the ramp early. It actually starts about a minute or two before you really start sleeping since your breathing pattern changes to regular breaths at about that time. The first few times, I actually noticed the ramp. After that I didn't I highly doubt that using autoramp would miss any more apnea events than using apap due to the fact that your muscle tone will gradually relax as you get deeper and deeper into sleep, and your pressure need will gradually increase. I have personally checked the ramp waveform several times (breath by breath), and never once have I seen an event.
The reason why I use the ramp, and will continue to use it, is that the with with the 7/3 (7 pressure, 3 EPR), my breathing is almost the same as without the CPAP, and I can cough, yawn, and talk without having to fight the pressure being stuffed up my nose. The reason why I increased to 8/3 is I often wake up (by often I mean once per night, but most nights) a little bit stuffy, and the 7/3 is not quite enough to hold my nasal passages open against the stuffiness.
Even if I decided to stop using the auto-ramp for comfort (I doubt this will happen), I would still set it to 0.2 cmH20 below therapy pressure so that I could tell when I fall asleep as I find it is very useful for interpreting data.

You wrote this as if it is going to be very informative to the people reading it. But it is not because you didn't state whether your EPR setting is all night or only during ramp. It makes a big difference.

I am quite intrigued by this thread. I have ramp set at 45 because I thought the initial startup was giving me problems. Now I'm going to turn it off and see what difference it makes. Thankful that I found this website and forum. Have been considering returning the machine.

Does anyone else see the irony here?
DWaldman started a thread telling people to use the ramp, and as a result of the thread, someone is turning the ramp off.

Yes, that's right, experiment until you see what works for
you. It seems that thousands of people have solved problems with the help of this forum. It may take some time, but most of the problems can be solved.
Good luck.

Actually he didn't tell people to use ramp. He stated what he found worked for him and posted it in case it helped anyone else ending in "YMMV". And since then some other people have also explained how they use ramp. Might seem like semantics but I find it ironic you're somewhat mischaracterizing things .

That is an interesting way to ask for more info.

Yes it is. Well, I found it informative and would like more info .

I use the EPR only on the ramp.

last night I turned off the ramp feature. supposedly got 10 hours usage which is an all time high. part of that could be due to mri testing first thing Friday morning and I was exhausted. I was originally diagnosed with complex apnea and therapist has been tweaking min/max. my pressure settings now are 5min and 10max. Mask is still popping up into my mouth and I am still swallowing air. is it possible the machine doesn't know how to respond with the pop up - leak rate doesn't seem to be affected. I need to find the original report so I can compare some of the results. I can't say that I feel any better today and still tired. however some of that may be due to having retired 5/1 and no longer am a 24/7/365 IT guy.
