You are 100% correct....there is a flapper valve there.palerider wrote:mptolman and fdw, I'm pretty sure you're both wrong about the anti-asphyxiation holes, there's a little flap that should seal those when the blower is on, and then air comes out from the holes around where the elbow fits into the mask proper.
get a mirror and examine those holes *closely* while the machine is running, or, pop the elbow off the mask and put your thumb over the main opening, then turn on the cpap, the flap should close and no air should come out of it.
