I know-- can you believe it?

Moi?

In only 2 days? (Although I'm sure some people would say what took them so long).

Which thread? I just went over there for the first time in years to see I could find it, but couldn't.
Yeah, Doofus there deleted most of the thread. He posted something that made him look like an idiot, I posted that what he posted made him look like an idiot, and BFS predictable result ensues.

Oh well, [insert sour grapes here].

Besides, the only thing they got that's any good over there is all the manuals and instructions to access clinical menus in one place.

All the manuals and instructions to access clinical menus in one place...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

Well, don't fret. You can always come up with a new identity.

Anyone see the op Ed piece by the former CEO of Reddit??? We aren't the only ones. It must be troll season.

She emphasized that while some protections had to be added, free and open speech is still important.

They used electronic gadgets to generate the sounds in the movie and then claimed it was "electronic tonalities," ," not music, so that they didn't have to pay union rates to the musicians.

Every time I see that movie now, I keep expecting Leslie Nielson to do shtick like in Police Squad or Airplane.

Some nice person sent me a link to the thread in question. Thanks!

Regarding the manuals.......
I've gotten the impression those folks on the ApneaBoard downloaded all the manuals that "dsm", "rested gal" and I had accumulated years ago and which 'dsm" had stored on a server in Australia. I don't know what happened, but the links quit working a couple of years ago. Maybe "dsm" quit paying for his server space. Or, maybe the manufacturers saw them and put the (legal) kibosh to it. Anyway, the links were occasionally posted on this forum and I think the folks at the AB saw them and that became the source for their treasure trove of old manuals. Some years back I burned them to some CDs and sent one set to "Pugsy", too.

And, regarding having your "freedom of speech" restricted over there........I say wear it as a badge of honor.
Did the whole ASAA group start that ApneaBoard forum? Reminds me of their tactics, but I haven't visited that place enough to get any information regarding the people who run it.

well.... see last paragraph, from the wikipedia article:
Forbidden Planet
Main article: Forbidden Planet

The soundtrack for Forbidden Planet (1956) is today recognized as the first entirely electronic score for a film. Eerie and sinister, the soundtrack was unlike anything that audiences had heard before. Music historians have often noted how groundbreaking the soundtrack was in the development of electronic music.

On the album sleeve notes of the Forbidden Planet soundtrack, Louis and Bebe explain:

We design and construct electronic circuits which function electronically in a manner remarkably similar to the way that lower life-forms function psychologically. [. . .]. In scoring Forbidden Planet – as in all of our work – we created individual cybernetics circuits for particular themes and leit motifs, rather than using standard sound generators. Actually, each circuit has a characteristic activity pattern as well as a "voice". [. . .]. We were delighted to hear people tell us that the tonalities in Forbidden Planet remind them of what their dreams sound like.[4]

The producers of the film had originally wanted to hire Harry Partch to do the music score. The Barrons were brought in to do only about twenty minutes of sound effects. After the producers heard the initial sample score, the Barrons were assigned an hour and ten minutes of the rest of the film. The studio wanted to move the couple to Hollywood where most of the film scores were produced at the time. But the couple would not budge, and took the work back to their New York studio.

The music and the sound effects stunned the audience. During the preview of the movie when the sounds of the spaceship landing on Altair IV filled the theater, the audience broke out in spontaneous applause. Later, the Barrons turned over their stunning audio creation to GNP Crescendo records for distribution. GNP had previously demonstrated its expertise in producing and marketing science fiction film soundtracks and executive album producer Neil Norman had proclaimed the film (and the soundtrack) his favorites.

Not everyone was happy with the score. Louis and Bebe did not belong to the Musicians' Union. The original screen credit for the film, which was supposed to read "Electronic Music by Louis and Bebe Barron", was changed at the last moment by a contract lawyer from the American Federation of Musicians. In order to not upset the union, the association with the word music had to be removed. The Barrons were credited with "Electronic Tonalities". Because of their non-membership in the union, the film was not considered for an Oscar in the soundtrack, or special effects category.

Think the NSA will rent us some space? They've probably got them anyway.......if we just knew where to find the links.

They could delete some of Hillary's and Jane Fonda's emails, and have plenty of space. Jim
