I keep having this recurring thought that ResMed is operating from a position of weakness rather than a position of strength. Maybe someone can convince me I'm wrong, but what I see is ResMed getting pushed around by one of the big DME's. That certainly doesn't seem like a position of strength to me. If anything, it strikes me that the company could be positioning for selling ResMed to that DME.

ResMed management seems inflexible (i.e., stupid), and can't see the clear advantage to considerably greater sales through internet operations. The internet, if anything should increase the market potential for all vendors. It doesn't limit the potential market the way DME's do.

If ResMed were dominant and controlling the industry then maybe their tactics would work, but I just don't see that happening. If ResMed ownership goes to a specific DME though, then I can see an advantage to that DME in the short term. Either way though, long-term this seems like a very bad move for ResMed.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Regards,
Bill

Bill,

That's what I've been wondering about, too. A day or two ago, I remember saying in one of my posts that I thought they were acting paranoid.....I'm just not sure why. One would think that any of these companies would be EMBRACING the Internet......it's "the future". If it were some other business market, these manufacturers would be doing direct sales from their corporate websites......order online from THEM.

They're doing some incredibly STUPID things!!!

There have been some very distressful stories posted here, but apparently ResMed only hears about the problems with online sites. Let's educate them.
Hear, hear!!! The best idea I've seen IF we are diplomatic in our contacts w/Resmed and knock the local DME suppliers, sleep labs and sleep doctors we have had problems dealing w/rather than Resmed and their policy. (The bold emphasis in the quote is mine). Educate Resmed regarding their all too often misplaced faith in local DME suppliers, sleep labs and sleep doctors.
