I'm seeing a tragic butter knife accident, blood and guts all over the floor, a trip to the ER, huge lawsuit...
"directions unclear, inserted butterknife into belly button"
The instructions were..."gently stick it".

The original mask needs to be used to grip the plastic snap on fitting.
The plastic part/hose collar is a friction fitting, but no superhuman strength or tools are needed.
The key is to grip the mask (with the snap attachment) in one hand (without opening the snap)
and the other hand on the rubber collar on the hose and wiggle them apart.
Be careful--grabbing the hose where it bends will only destroy it!
I have done that. Twice! Only grip the rubber part.
It is best not to do this in the dark--as I did when I broke mine.

He already did that before fixing the mask he apparently disassembled and put together wrong.
Why there is black tape on his hose.

Hey Enchanter followed my directions and used electrical tape to fix the hose! Awesome!

Repeating things seems to be prudent in this situation.

Unfortunately, even with these methods, the piece is not moving.

grasp the large rubber end, where it flares out, just before the hose joins it, hold it firmly in one hand, DO NOT HOLD ONTO THE HOSE.
grasp the plastic piece in your other hand, rock the plastic piece back and forth, side to side, while pulling firmly, do not try to pull straight out, pull while moving the plastic part side to side.
alternatively, get another hose, you can buy them at many truck stops, call around.

Just unwrap that black insolation tape off and use your fingers to separate the elastic white end of the hose from the clear plastic connector. Put that piece aside. Then hook the elastic end of the hose over the entrance solid tube at the mask.
you really should learn not to offer advice about things you don't understand, avi.
the tape is on there because he ripped the end of the hose open... it has NOTHING to do with the fact that the swivel from the previous mask is stuck in the end of the hose. look again at the picture posted.
