It's not rocket science nor does it require an engineering degree. It's just a mask. He's behaving helplessly and many people are enabling him.

Hmmm....not sure I would help someone twice who spit in my face once. There are a lot more appreciative people in the world who would be grateful for some assistance.

So...assuming no one will go to the extreme of hopping a plane, showing up at your door and waving the magic wand to solve all your confusion over a mask and machine that were sent to you apparently assembled and ready to go...what the hell will you do if you get a more complex machine than basic CPAP??
Tons of people have bent backwards to break down things to a level that pretty much a child could follow. There has GOT to be a point where you finally follow directions one step at a time and GET IT, or yell, "GOTCHA!!"

That's where my compass points.

I am definitely a good person but I'll be damned if I am going to help someone who spits in my face!

Been trying to get it to set up. I am incapable and am a good for nothing failure. Cannot concentrate on the instructions because my head hurts and I am a failure. there is no air in this machine. I don't feel anything.

So you're having trouble getting set up - not the end of the world for heaven's sake - stop the drama! Take it all to a local dealer and ask for help assembling it - and pay attention to how they do it, and whatever you do don't let them talk you into buying a new one! Maybe buy a couple of filters (they're cheap) to keep them happy.

Enchanter,
Stop the negative talk ok? I definitely understand your frustrations as one who also struggles with "simple" tasks but negative talk doesn't help, particularly putting yourself down.
Is there someone locally who can help you?

I didn't have the hose in, stupid me. Now it is working. I don't know if I'm really fitting the mask correctly although I made adjustments. A lot of air comes out though even though I do feel air come in.

Is air supposed to leak out of the mask? How much less effective will it make it?

Julie, when does a doctor give patients supplemental H20? What's the criteria?

If air leaks around the edges of the mask, that's not good. If air blows from the tiny 'intentional' patch of holes, that's CO2 coming out, it's necessary and never cover that patch with bedding - you don't want to rebreathe the CO2.
And I already talked to you about oxygen (O2).
H20 is water! Not relevant.

Oh yea it's water. I meant oxygen. You can't assume I don't need it. What's the criteria?
As far as leakage, it's leaking near the top, nostril height. There's no way to avoid that it seems
