Like the concept of MicroCPAP device but hate the "disposable"
Why not make it last 2-3 years at least, so that we can fully make use of the materials and not throw it after using for 2-3 days? This is what make the world so polluted with trash (remind me of disposable water bottle everywhere)

Kinda like making one of those disposable water bottles last 2-3 years before you dispose of it.
Doubt the device could be built to last that long without making it significantly larger with replaceable parts etc..

And still needs to be past FDA approval assuming it even gets funded.

Nose buds. That seems like it will go in the nose like ear buds go in the ears. I guess that's how the device will stay attached. I never knew how painful my Nasal Aire was till tried nasal pillows! Don't think I will ever want something up mu nose again.

I'm highly sceptical about getting a night's worth of power into a battery that fits in that size of device.

You also lack the ability to use different mask types, for instance for mouth breathers who need a FFM. I suspect the "in the nose" nasal prong idea is not going to work for a lot of people.

However, if the blower part works, you could fit a similar device into "cork" that you simply attach to your CPAP mask. Add an external DC power supply option.

You don't have a way to do humidification, unless it's one of those sponge like HME techniques, which is better than nothing.

I suspect the yearly cost of a disposable CPAP device is going to be astronomical. Maybe it's rechargeable and you dispose of it every x days, but it still sounds expensive.

People using cpap machines, know nothing about what's required to move air into the airway "volume and pressure", or have never seen someone being bagged for ventilation. Your cpap would have to move the same volume, and do it at a higher pressure than normal breathing. But then again, it may be powered by a nuclear reactor. It's easy to see how DME's rip off people, they don't have a clue of life or how things work. jim

Crowd Funding, a good way to raise large amounts of money quickly to get a project off the ground, but also soon to be another racket for scammers, to milk fools out of their money!

I'm thinking of developing a product to solve world hunger... It's a Edible Bean, that can grow in any soil and climate with little wate, it strangles all weeds near it, so no herbicides needed, insects won't eat it, so no pesticides either. It grows very fast, so fast three crops can be grown a year. It stores well for year, and tastes better as it ages.

I plan on building a research center in the Bahamas, probably can grow 4 crops a year there. If I succeed my next project will be gene training so the bean plant will use sea water in the daytime and give off fresh water at night, also getting it to pull CO2 out of the air, and give off O2. I also have a plan to use the leftover plant material into Biofuel.

The main problem, there's this kid hanging around with a axe, he keeps trying to cut down my bean plants. Fe Fy Fo Fum!

It's possible that a MEMS device could be much more energy efficient than an blower like is in the current standard CPAP machines. Some of the stuff you can do with these MEMS microelectromechanical systems is like space alien technology.

There are probably a lot of inefficiencies in the relatively large low speed air turbine design used in CPAP machines. It's designed for rapid variation and constant pressure, not low power usage. A microelectronic device might use something more efficient like a positive displacement pump system and use a lot less power.

However, I'm not investing or abandoning my current fan powered CPAP machine yet. I'll watch with interest, though.

I agree that anyone making 'disposable' anything these days, let alone out of plastic, should have their products automatically rejected and then be fined to make sure they get the point.

Blanket statements can stick you. Hypodermic needles are made with plastics, and are thrown away to prevent infections and the spread of disease. They have a point as well.

Well of course there are necessary applications - until something better comes along, but if something better is already in place and the disposable is just a convenience, then I think it should be discouraged. But you're the one who raised the issue in the first place... but I guess you had different concerns.

Since marketing may be directed for outdoors/camping use, the "disposable" feature
may get it banned from national parks. Just saying.

If this thing if it works it looks like a game changer -- with new technology for moving and pressurizing air using micro pumps or fans or something. That alone is a technology worth looking at. It could totally change cpap designs in the future -- masks with a small, rechargeable blower attached directly to the mask, with no hoses to attach. And even better, not have to lug around a cpap blower when traveling out of town for a few days would be a boon to cpap users.

Would I want a machine that has to get thrown out every day or every few days? Likely no. However I'd imagine this one lasts longer than just one evening. If I needed one for a quick trip, or if my main machine broke and I needed a standby for a few days this, even if disposable, could be an excellent alternative. And, eventually, it will likely morph into a longer-use product like an electric toothbrush or razor. Those things, while usually not single-use disposable, eventually lose the ability to hold a charge and most all now have sealed batteries that cannot be replaced -- they eventually must be disposed of or sent for recycling after a year or two. But the fact such things don't last forever (what does) certainly doesn't stop me from realizing the many dental benefits of an electric toothbrush vs. a manual one, which must still get thrown out, even more regularly in fact.
