Some S9 machines will only work with low capacity SD cards. If you put a new 4 GB card in the machine it may not work. It depends on the hardware/firmware of the machine. 2GB cards are hard to find but it can be done.

ResMed S9 machines use SD cards in non-standard, perverted, disgusting, and sinful ways. The S9 machine tends to reject the card if anything other than an S9 machine or ResScan has written to it.

You might try some sort of copy procedure once you get a new card. At worst, the machine will probably just tell you it has to reformat the card. I forget the wording, but it puts something on the display and offers to reformat it. A few button pushes later, and you'll have a freshly formatted blank SD card.

I'd be really scared of putting tape on an SD card and then putting it into the card reader. I would think the risk of the tape coming off is too high.
