I disagree Chicagogranny Our general treatment here in the US is treating the symptoms not cause, Now that's not to say there are doctors out there that do investigate further to determine causes of some diseases or ailments but the majority of them just treat the symptoms as they run their practices like a factory and only spending 15 minutes with the patient and not really listening or caring about what the patient is telling them. It is hard to find a good doctor who will spend time with you and listen.

You only repeated a generalization that all of us have heard thousands of times.
Provide some evidence, not an empty generalization.

So quit using CPAP. CPAP only treats the symptom, a collapsing airway, and does not treat the root of the problem.

For example in treating allergies Drs tend to recommend use of an anti histamine (SP?) which helps one of the symptoms of the allergy. We all know not everyone can avoid allergies so Drs treat your symptoms to help the patients comfort level.

What should the doctors be doing for allergies?

I don't know what kind of doctors Nyre has been seeing, but I can tell you what my ENT did for me.
First he tested me to see my immune response to allergies. My response was high to some common allergens (mainly grass pollen), so he addressed the root cause with immunotherapy. My response was also high to some not-so-common allergens (chrysanthemums for example) and he told me to avoid mums - again, addressing the root cause.
He also recommended neti pot rinses two per day followed by a nasal steroid spray once per day. He wanted to see if the inflammation in my turbinates would clear up. It did not in six weeks of faithful treatment, so he performed turbinate reduction surgery and corrected a badly deviated septum.
As far as the root cause of all of that, it happened decades before I saw this doctor and all he could do was correct what was already a mess.
I don't think many doctors prescribe antihistamines for long term, regular use. For short term, seasonal or intermittent use they are appropriate.

Maybe you or your immediate family has not had many health problems. You have made an incorrect statement about our amazing medical treatment.

Primary progressive aphasia simply means the aphasia gets worse over time, but other cognitive functions are relatively unaffected. Aphasia that is due to a stroke tends to improve over time. Aphasia that is due to Alzheimer's tends to be comorbid with other cognitive declines (but in a relatively small number of cases, Alzheimer's has been implicated in the PPA).
