On that note, just because something looks like something else doesn't mean it's been rebranded and that it's the same exact thing or the same quality. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but not our own facts. If there's factual proof that Virtuox has taken the Contec product and "rebranded" it, I'd be interested in reviewing that proof. Absent that, thank you for your opinions. I'll post my experience with my Virtuox Apnea oximeter. Hopefully, it will provide me with the interim information I need before I do another sleep study with the dental appliance.
If you want to claim your Virtuox isnt the same hardware inside and is somehow superior to the other similar products, I say the onus is on you to prove it.

It's probably basically the same Chinese product rebranded by many different people. It may not even be designed by Contec. That's the way things are done these days.

all you have to do is *look* at it, but fine,.... go ahead and spend more $$$, then open it up and compare the guts... and find that what you bought WAS the "cheap chinese junk" you're complaining about, just with a different label slapped on it.

You may want to have a look at Cooper Medical. I believe they used to be called the Pulse-Ox store and I think the owner, Kevin, is a member of the forum who is familiar with Sleepyhead. Anyway, they have a good website with lots of stuff on downloads and reports which could be helpful. Plus, it appears they are located in Georgia.

This is too complicated and hard to follow. Has someone researched this who is able to post the recording oximeters that work with Sleepyhead, the approximate price, and bonus points for the source to order on the Internet, or national retail drugstores.

As you use Sleepyhead you can open the navigation screen and click oximetry. On the page that opens he describes several models Sleepyhead will work with.

I have a CMS50D+ wish listed on Amazon for about 40 bucks

Note that there is a CMS50D, which doesn't record and doesn't work for apnea. You need the Plus model, i.e. CMD50D+. Quite a few people have made that mistake.

From SleepyHead 0.9.8-1

"SleepyHead is currently compatible with Contec CMS50D+, CMS50E, CMS50F and CMS50I serial oximeters.
(Note: Direct importing from bluetooth models is probaby not possible yet)

You may wish to note, other companies, such as Pulox, simply rebadge Contec CMS50's under new names, such as the Pulox PO-200, PO-300, PO-400. These should also work.

It also can read from ChoiceMMed MD300W1 oximeter .dat files.

Please remember: If you are trying to sync oximetery and CPAP data, please make sure you imported your CPAP sessions first before proceeding!

Important Notes: For SleepyHead to be able to locate and read directly from your Oximeter device, you need to ensure the correct device drivers (eg. USB to Serial UART) have been installed on your computer. For more information about this, click here.

Contec CMS50D+ devices do not have an internal clock, and do not record a starting time. If you do not have a CPAP session to link a recording to, you will have to enter the start time manually after the import process is completed.
Even for devices with an internal clock, it is still recommended to get into the habit of starting oximeter records at the same time as CPAP sessions, because CPAP internal clocks tend to drift over time, and not all can be reset easily."

BTW, if you get one of these, be sure to label the USB cable that came with it. For many of these pulseoxen, the cable looks like a standard USB cable, but it's actually a special cable and the pulseox won't work with a normal USB cable.

I'll agree the Cooper Medical (http://www.coopermedical.com/) is a great supplier.

Before I got my latest sleep study, I bought a CMS 50D+ but never used it with SleepyHead since at that time I had my M-Series which was not supported. I got it just to see what my over night O2 was like since I had not had it checked for 9 years.

I used is a couple nights and then passed it on. One comment that I would make is that using a unit with a wrist strap would more than likely be a lot more comfortable. So while they cost more, I think if you plan on using it on a regular basis you would be a lot more comfortable with the wrist type.

If you have a finger model that is too uncomfortable, do not despair.
Try it on your thumb before springing for that wrist model.

I used to be an employee for Virtuox in their sales department, and I felt that some clarification was needed. Yes, VirtuOx imports some of their oximeters from Contec medical in China. However, we used to have contec and our other vendors design the oximeters to our specs to be compatible with our web based software, therefore all oximeters that were/are offered are not the same or can work with the Virtuox software. Even the functionality (a few of them are patent pending) of certain devices that we offered we're different when compared to the other CMS models.

Take my word for it these weren't crappy oximeters either, all home care companies, physicians, and hospitals that purchased them were always satisfied with their performance.

contec makes the cms50f and i models, (not one, eye) and that's what is pictured in that vpod rebranding.

if you don't want to believe it... that's up to you.

feel free to pay more to someone that's stuck their name on contec's product.
Same unit, different logo.

I use this unit and it works great with it's on software and the Sleepyhead latest test build. I purchased this unit from Ebay member from China. No complaints.
