HTC One, the older M7 version. Stock Kitkat. After getting an iPad Air, I am longing to switch to iPhone in a year when phone is finally paid off (T-Mobile). I know iOS has its quirks, but Android, while much more flexible, drives me nuts at times. That and we switched to Mac so I like the semi-unified platform.

Just upgraded from a 'dumb phone' to an "old" smart one (slider). It's an entry level Android. I believe it's OS is Jelly Bean (what ever that is). I'm technically challenged to say the least. What's rooted? When I have questions about it (the cat is as dumb as my last phone) I'll go someplace like Taco Bell, Carl's Jr, McDonald's, etc. Anywhere where young people work or congregate (teenagers), who can give me an answer in a snap

iPhone 6 Plus for me. I wasn't sure I would like a larger phone, but now when I pick up my old 5S, it seems so tiny and I wonder how I used it.

pay as you go cell phone $7 a month ($20 every 3 months, and the minutes rollover since I never use them all)

ipod touch - It does everything an iphone can do except make phone calls and have its own cell service. I can use any free wifi (McDonalds, Starbucks, etc) and wifi where I have passwords for it such as home, a friend's house, my wifi card, etc.

wifi card - I pay $20 a month so that I can have wifi when free isn't available. I can all month using less than 500MB if I simply don't use it for videos. Lots of email and web surfing is fine. I can also use the wifi card for my laptop, a friend's laptop, my ipod, my mom's kindle, and a friend's tablet, all at the same time.


So, I carry 3 small items, but my cost is only $27 a month. I can make phone calls, text, take photos with two of the items, web surf (usually with the ipod touch, but the phone can too). Lots of apps on the ipod touch. As well as photos, videos, tons of music, documents, etc. I travel a lot to attend cat shows, so I am often in buildings where there is no free wifi. And some hotels charge you to use theirs. So, I like have a wifi card that will work for my laptop, and not just a small device.

Rooted in the Android world is like getting Admin Access to your PC. With a rooted phone you can remove bloat software that you can't normally remove, make system changes that are normally locked out. Some use Root access to make major changes to the system as well.

iPhones have a similar thing called being Jailbroken. Allows you to load software that are normally walled off.

This I must learn! My S3 is getting very glitchy, and I suspect if I could pare down all the unnecessary apps it would run more smoothly

sammy is famous for overloading crap on their phones.

Was using a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Verizon. Have had the phone rooted, and was using CleanROM until Samsung added Knox, and the CleanROM author had to give up on 4.4.2. At that point, I was just rooted, and used vanilla 4.4.2. Not a Knox fan, so now am using an iPhone 6, which I like a lot. I don't feel the need to jailbreak it, since Apple doesn't allow all the garbage Verizon apps that I couldn't get rid of without rooting the S3. And doesn't have the zillions of useless Samsung apps, as well.

iOS is designed for mobile devices, so it isn't a big battle to get my idle battery usage down. Does everything I need from a phone just fine, and works very well, good display and quick. A few problems with iOS 8, but I can live with it them. Android felt much more like a cut-own version of a general purpose os than iOS does, which made it more difficult keep under control, battery-wise. All the google stuff was heavy and way too pervasive for my tastes.

I can get directions on my ipod touch and phone, but when driving, I use a garmin. I really like having the screen up in easy view, voice option, and some of the special features such as lane assist and local speed limits.

It greatly depends on where you are at and what you do. At work, IT is about 90% Android, 10% Apple whereas middle management on up is pretty much the other way around. Looking at the stats of all users that are under MDM control for BYOD at work, is is closer to 60% Android 40% Apple that is with about 1,800 devices.

Extended Family is 3 iPhone, 12 Android, 4 iPads and 8 Android Tablets. Only 3 have rooted their Androids and none have jail broken the iThings.

My wife and I just upgraded from Iphone 4s to the Iphone 6. Best decision we made this year. The 6 has a screen large enough to be decent for browsing. We both love SIRI for voice texting and getting information. I think down the road Apple Pay is going to be great as the merchant only receives the payment and not all your card information. I'm not a fan of Apple computers but like the phones. All our immediate family has either Iphones and/or Ipads. When my wife and I went to Russia last year as long as there was wifi we could text real time with family back home and send photos without any charges. Other phones can do that with the right apps but it's built into the Iphone when communicating with other Apple products.
