Just got the "new version".... took about 3 mins and I reloaded the old version. Seriously, not sure what they are thinking.
Lots of clutter, no easy way to see the forums the way you did before. Trending, couldn't care less about. Just want to see the topics and new messages in a simple format.

I had it wrong. Installing from the apk does not prevent Play Store from knowing you have it installed. You need to go your app list at the Play Store and uncheck automatic updates in order to keep Google from downloading the crap version without asking.

If you are rooted, and have Titanium Backup, you can detatch the app from the play store and it will never see the new update automatically. This is good since you can then use Update All when a number of apps are ready to update without having to do them one at a time.
I always have automatic updates turned off as I want to control what apps are being updated and why.
I also updated it so that I can reload the older version if necessary.
And I sent a notification to them as a Forum Admin which uses their product on a number of forums that I thought their new version was pretty bad and they might want to look at their reviews to see what people are upset about. I have it loaded 4 or 5 forums that I manage and am seeing complaints from users of those forums.
Tapatalk has now done it to iOS users!

The crap version of Tapatalk has now been rolled out to the iOS community. If you use an Apple device turn off auto updates until you decide if you want to plunge into the cesspool or not. iOS users, join the chorus at the Tapatalk Community who are having a virtual burning at the stake of the TT developers.

I reloaded Tapatalk HD which I paid for several years ago and have been using it (this message), works well with the forums that I monitor or admin. As for the developers, they are living in a different planet, I suspect they don't have the code to go back.... but day they are moving forward which mean people and forums are jumping ship.
There is another app called Forum Fiend, which uses the Tapatalk API, and is ok, but is getting better as time goes on. It is more like what the users are looking for. No idea if there is an ios version.

Thank you all for the heads up.
Having seen some "push" for the product, I had been tempted. . .

The general consensus is that version 4.9.5, for Android, was the last really usable version put out, although many say it wasn't as clean and easy to use as previous versions. If you're familiar with loading an app using an apk file go to
https://support.tapatalk.com/threads/gu ... talk.27718 for info on how to get the apk and install it.
