Yes I remember that recall and was affected by it, it was to do with a power circuit board/cable problem.

Okay....Second AirSense 10 Humidifier Water Chamber (tub) before use and after 8 hours use, drum roll please...

Before use

After 8 hours use

So I suspect the next move will be to swap out the entire AirSense 10 machine and a third Humidifier Water Chamber to make sure it's not the machine that is at fault, unless ResMed now know the cause of the problem, but I'll contact ResMed again and we'll see where we go from here.

It may be caused by Fracking or Global Warming, overheating the baseplate element. Jim

Or maybe an alien abduction and the alien beam coming down into my bedroom at night from the mothership is causing the tub to overheat

Here's the comparison of the two tubs side-by-side, latest tub (left) after 1 night and the original tub (right) after 6 nights.

Perhaps we should rename the thread...."The United Colours of ResMed"

You're gonna have to change your name on here: "Dave Toasty Tub"

Yep that's what I'm starting to think although it could still be a bad batch of tubs perhaps maybe we shouldn't rule that one out, heck maybe they're all affected?

Yep "toasty" should by my middle name at this rate, or "On Fire" or "Flaming" Wonder how quick an egg would cook in the water chamber?

Have to say on the auto setting it's nice to have nice warm air coming through at 27C, although maybe it's a lot warmer/hotter than 27C

Which would bring the best price on Ebay, a water tank with a crop circle burnt in it or one with Elvis. Jim

I would say Elvis might win on bids, but then if there was one with Yoda, that would be the home run.

Maybe time for a short run period with everything on and remove the tub and check the plate with an infrared thermometer ?? Would be interesting to see what the temperature really is on the plate.

If you're not running your tank dry, the inside part of the tank isn't getting that hot. It wouldn't get above 100C until after it boils the water away. If it was getting anywhere close to that kind of temperature, you'd probably get a LOT of humidity and rapid water use.

It's unlikely it's thermal spalling anyway. Some sort of oxide layer or other layer forming on your tank sounds like the most likely reason. Both aluminum and stainless have an oxide layer, and stainless is well known for forming a rainbow layer of oxide like that. If that's it, you can probably rub it off with a steel wool cleansing pad.

That would be an interesting experiment, and it would be especially interesting to see if it comes back.

If you look at the surface from different angles, do the rainbow colors change?

As to why you see it and others don't, your water sounds like the most likely cause. Some sort of cleaning product might have an effect, but I'm assuming you didn't put anything other than water on the new one.

It's really unlikely to be hazardous. Stainless steel cooking pots do this all the time, and it's not harmful. Especially since you eat or drink whatever comes off of the cooking pot into the food, and you don't drink the CPAP water.

However, once again, ResMed will probably want to fix this because it's a customer perception problem if nothing else.

Is the bottom stainless steel or aluminum? I'm assuming it's stainless, but could be wrong. See if a magnet sticks, although some stainless is magnetic and some isn't. My S9 humidifier tanks are very slightly magnetic, but I have to use a really powerful magnet and it only sticks in the corners.
