Here's my favorite one:

"I tried to sleep with that thing on my face and I couldn't. So now I just blow a fan on my face and it does the same thing."

My sister-in-law told me a few weeks ago that she has a CPAP machine on her closet shelf; been there for a few years. She didn't like it. So I told her about all the new mask choices like the all cloth masks or the teeny little Wisp. She said she'd look into it. RIGHT-- So yesterday her dear husband was telling me about her latest and newest symptom: heart palpitations. Hmmm...

Piglet, ask for the machine "when she passes".

I was one of those that thought this whole sleep study business was a scam. No more!
Getting my machine next week.

Things I'll now say:

"Thank goodness for CPAP!"
"I should have done this years ago."
"No, thank you, for putting up with this for so long!"
(To my wife)

the sad fact is that there's a lot of scam around the outsides, hugely inflated prices, ridiculous rules, etc. and that sometimes obscures the validity of the core treatment.

Where can I find out about this? What I am doing now seems so complicated especially when I travel.

From my boss has a not too good doctor (as per his comment) and I suspect he is not having the proper therapy. Also he says things like his apnea is due to his deviated nose but: 'I have the nose deviated and if they make surgery it will not last long and it will get crooked again in a couple of months and my apnea will return.' He is laying to himself !

From my awesome allergie's doctor when I told him 4 years ago I had a CPAP prescribed (he is good for the allergies ): Don't use that, CPAP doesn't work, there is only 2% of success .

It's sort of like getting the oil changed in your car. You REALLY do need to change your oil regularly. Unfortunately, a lot of the shops will try to scam you and rip you off when you go and get the oil changed.

I have often wondered with the fully synthetic motor oils how often they really need to be changed. Certainly not more often than 15k miles (that is per some car manufacturers). Probably not more often than 25K miles, and perhaps much, much longer. As long as the oil filter does not clog, the synthetics really do not change over time.

The last car I had that any type of wear that could be attributed to oil was made in 1972.

My husband has a-fib. His cardiologist told him he didn't ft the profile. Then he told him it wouldn't work for him because he has a beard. DUH. I made him go to my sleep doctor who said that at least 9 out of 10 people who have a-fib have sleep apnea. Most of his referrals come from cardiologists.

Sure enough, he has complex sleep apnea and a new cardiologist.
