I turn on my O2 compressor, walk to the bedroom, sit on bed, put on mask, while setting on bed, push the start button on my XPAP, lie down, pull up covers. The whole operation takes less than one minute. If you fall asleep faster than that you need a 24/7 keeper.
Speaking of that you could also get the app, WIFE 1, it can work in two ways, one it can oversee that you get your mask on before you pass out, or mode 2, it can nag you until you get it on.
The problem, WIFE 1, is costly, and requires daily maintenance. Jim
Jim: don't tell him about the wife.... are you crazy?

In reality, my routine is more involved. I built a sleep sound machine using a dvd player and Boise Speaker system to play nature sounds all night, I also ren a T.V. all night, I feed it with programing recorded on my main computer in the basement. So I turn it all on and log in. All in all those two devices have 4,000 hours of programing on them. Usually I set it for one of the 11 seasons of Married with Children, I've played it 100's of times. I don't watch it, just listen and fall in and out of sleep, mindless and helps me turn off my thinking.
I don't use network t.v., due to poor programing and, blasting volume of the ad's wake me up. Anytime I lay down in bed, I'm masked up with the machine on, period. Using my machine makes my congestion better. Jim

oh, I make plenty of mistakes, for example, for a while, I thought you had something worthwhile to contribute.... but then I found out I was mistaken, you mostly just play nanny and try to control people.
but one mistake I don't make that's very easy to avoid, is laying down and thinking 'well, I'll just close my eyes and wait till I'm good and sleepy before I bother to put on my mask...'
I bet you don't make that mistake either... or, am I wrong about that
Well, I did make one mistake. Never try to reason with a jackass.

Palerider,
I wasn't intending on starting any arguments here, I'm just trying to provide the solution the OP is asking for. The problem is that for some of us, sleep can be sudden and I for one enjoy reading before bed or watching a little TV to wind down from the day. Sometimes that means I wake up with a book open on my lap with my back against the headboard, mask-less. This is the type of problem I'm attempting to minimize. If it isn't for you, you don't need to download it.
Anyways, thanks to everyone who is providing useful feedback! I really appreciate it.

Yup, as I thought, you make plenty of mistakes, as in probably not putting your mask on either correctly or before you get sleepy... or you wouldn't have answered an innocent question in the nasty manner you did.
You seem somewhat smart when it comes to CPAP questions, but when God passed out being humble and kind... that boat sailed.
My my, you were actually being decent for a week or so.
hugs,
mommy dearest

oh, good advice, I'll remember that the next time I'm tempted to respond after you stick your nose into someone elses conversation.
thanks!

oh, think nothing of it, there's some old biddies here that seem to think they have control, or should have control, over how everybody acts, and can't see the difference in my saying that something you're doing is stupid, verses my calling you stupid. which, I didn't do.
I get in bed, put on the mask, and then read until I get sleepy enough, might be a few minutes, if at all, might be longer.
the trick is, don't get in bed and get all comfy without the mask on, sleeping without it is bad for you!

NO NO NOT THE COATHANGER!! PLEASE GOD NOT THE COATHANGER AGAIN!
based on your participation, I'd say you haven't worn your mask in years.
just so as we're clear, here, I couldn't possibly care less about what you think of me, and if you're bitching about it, then I figure I must be doing something right, to get someone's attention and drive home the point that something they're doing is most likely not good for them.
if it makes even one person think to themselves "well, yeah, it probably isn't good for me to lie down and 'wait till I get a bit sleepier' to put on the mask, then I figure I've helped someone, and you can sit and whine about I'm not up to your standards all you want.
now, go abuse some kids at your poor granddaughters school... I'm sure they LOVE having you telling them how to behave.

I guess your mommy never told you that there is a way to say something without making the other person feel like they have to defend themselves... i.e., Banj. Give it a try, it might work for you.

perhaps you should take your own advice, for once.
