A year for a cushion?
A few souls have had the good fortune to make a cushion last several months,
But this does not happen often enough to take to the bank.
Personally, I would slap your sleep doc into next spring!

I was still using my first cushion from my mirage quattro that I got in 2009 until a couple months ago when I bought a whole new mask because the elbow kept falling out the front of the old one, new mask has a new cushion on it.
I'd bought a spare cushion back in 2009, because of all the talk I'd read here about people replacing them after a few months, and how delicate they were, and how fast they wore out, and all.
never got around to opening the spare.
I think if I get around to boiling it, it'd be near 'bout good as new

This thread shocked me. I've had my Quattro FX since 09/09/2010 and never changed the cushion!
I use pad-a-cheek liners and change them regularly. And hand wash the cushion when needed.
What happens in 1-2 months to cause the need to change the cushion?

For me, the cushion gets an oily residue that can't seem to be cleaned off and it becomes less tacky, so it moves around on my face more. Pus it looks cloudy. Some folks will start to get leaks too, but my pressure is so low that isn't an issue for me. I will say though that if I had to pay 100% out of pocket I'd probably use the cushions for a lot longer (my costs ends up at about $10). I end up swapping them out after about 6 weeks. I've actually not thrown any away though; I may try that boiling in baking soda trick. If you use mask liners I'd imagine the cushion life would be greatly increased as your face oils aren't interacting with the silicone.
