I sure do agree with CaptPat and TheWino... there are many very helpful, kind people here. I've made PM/email friends and I was very lucky to find this forum way back when. However, let's call a spade a spade... there also are those who for some reason act as tho they own the forum or at least moderate it. I've learned not to bother with those people. However, I can see how a new person would be hesitant to ask a question for fear of being ridiculed, especially if they've read some of the posts here.

I feel this only partially true Pale. Yes, the OP could have chosen a different tone and/or reacted differently but I opine that he was put on the defensive pretty quickly and he then felt the need to respond to the multiple abrasive posts sent his way.
(I would be remiss without thanking the OP for his military service! Ranger, no less!!)

One poster, with eleven posts alone on this thread, has been riding the OP pretty hard with comments like, "foul mouthed jerk", "you are making yourself look like an idiot", and even felt the need to whip out the eff word on a forum that youngsters may be interested in reading. I have to doubt the owners of this forum are very appreciate of this attitude and verbage but, admit, this is an assumption. The reality is that I, personally, wouldn't care to be treated this way. The vitriolic responses by many has caught me by surprise. I consider myself an honest, stand-up guy so I have to feel others hold these very feelings as well.

I understand that there is a very strong, hard-core group of individuals who feel the need to defend our hosts, no matter what, but if put in this very situation, I seriously doubt being sent an unworkable device would bring a smile to their face. Certainly, the guidance to contact the owners was sound advice from where I sit.

Also, my buttons are very hard to push to begin with and I could really care less if someone I've never known questions a rational response I have posted. If it makes one feel inflated or a bigger man to behave in this way, so be it. I am uninterested in this absurd, nonsensical logic.

To end on a more positive note: I am in 100% agreement with 49'er in that that stating this forum doesn't help new people with CPAP problems is entirely incorrect. Being diagnosed myself with severe sleep apnea, I eventually found my way here extremely and entirely clueless about both the diagnosis and treatments.

I will forever be indebted to multiple posters, Pugsy, Frog, etc..., who were so patient in helping me. How do you pay someone back for this patience and time, especially since it is possibly life-saving information? The answer is to ensure they know of your appreciation and, perhaps, pay-it-forward! Hence, the forums.

I still continue to learn new information on this board.

So, if you are new to CPAP, please know that this thread is not indicative of the helpfulness that is available to you on this forum.

My lack of interest in the negativity continues and I will not respond further in this thread. Feel free smear my good name if it makes you feel more empowered.

If I had the ability to do so, I would simply lock this thread.

He started an inappropriate thread with the first sentence being: So, you think DME's are evil, huh. Well, so is CPAP-dot-COM

Sure, people would come to CPAP.com's defense; they host this forum and according to many here, have been more than helpful.

However, there is a way to do things... and the way things were done here isn't acceptable to me. Put yourself in his shoes. Maybe you would have done it in a different manner - I would have also - but I'm not about to make that judgement call.

He felt he was in a life threatening situation. End of story.

I'll point out that he was never in any 'life threatening situation', as pugsy pointed out, the OP had the bipap that he'd BEEN using up until two days before. he simply did not want to use it. this was never made clear until pugsy pointed it out.

Why is the post inappropriate if someone had a bad experience with cpap.com? Phil had tried to solve the problem, which included asking to speak to a supervisor and was told that wasn't possible. I don't know why people, including you, have a hard time understanding that anyone in his situation would be very frustrated.

I understand the intense loyalty to cpap.com but as one who had a few "scratching my head" moments with them that fortunately were resolved by Carolyn, they are definitely not infallible. But the difference between me and someone like Phil is I have been around for awhile and know that she will take care of things. He didn't hvae that knowledge so his anger was totally understandable since I think anyone, including you would be very upset if you received an expensive non working item in which things showed no sign of being resolved.

Finally, instead of anger at someone Phil, why not take the high road and say, we understand why you are angry but the Goodmans have a track record for making things right, please contact them and point them to the contact information. Imagine the positive tone that would set vs. all the negative mean spirited posts that resulted. My guess is that Phil would have felt less of a need to respond defensively to the attacks.

I don't believe that the OP ever made the claim that he was feeling there was a life threatening situation, that was something someone attributed to him. I may be wrong about that, feel free to show me the OP's post where he was in fear of his life.
