Newbie: Light sleeper, mustache, belly sleeper, which mask?

Post by itsme » Tue Oct 04, 2005 5:42 pm

I'm new here, did a quick search and found some good advice, wondering if anyone has specific advice for a newbie who is an incredibly light sleeper, with mustache, who likes to toss and turn and flip pillows, and sometimes sleeps on stomach?

I know its pretty much the worst setup ever, but what can I say, that's how I sleep. The sleep study place used a Respironics ComfortGel Nasal Mask, and it seemed alright, but I couldnt sleep to save my life (though I dont think it was the mask's fault entirely)

Thanx!

I highly recomment the Resmed Activa as your first mask. You can experiment from there. It has the highest success rate than any other mask IMHO.

I've got a mustache and sleep 50% on my back, 25% on my left side and the remainder on my right side rolled over so far I might as well be on my stomach.

The Swift works well for me with the tube coming into the barrel on the left. I bet the Aura would work even better though.

Hi there, itsme. As far as choosing a mask, if at all possible, go to your DME with your usual sleeping pillow and ask to try on several (or all) of their masks. And do it lying down, rolling over as you do in your bed. That would be the absolute best thing you could do. If that's not possible, then you're going to be like the rest of us, probably, and end up with 2 - 5 masks real quick! Go ahead and listen to the advice given here, but keep in mind that mask fitting is very individual. It will also depend a bunch on your pressure and your nose architecture.

As for me, I like my DreamFit about the best for sleeping on my side. My UltraMirage Full Face mask works pretty well, also, but I seem to get better AHIs with the DreamFit.

Good luck!
