New Product - the MaskCloset

Post by falvesjr » Mon Nov 30, 2009 6:05 pm

Hey guys and girls,

I've started making a new product that you may like. I'm calling it the MaskCloset. It's a storage system for your masks and accessories. I won't give you a long description here as you can see it for yourself at cpapauction.com at this location: the MaskCloset. There are lots of pictures there too!

Obviously, I am affiliated with the product as I'm the one making it, so please judge it's usefulness for yourself, but if you like it, please let me know here. I will also welcome any suggestions or comments about how it could be improved or modified, but please keep things constructive...

I've been using several MaskClosets for a few weeks now (that's my closet in the picture) and really love the convenience of having my masks neatly organized and easily accessible. I hope you all like it too!

Here's a teaser picture...

Nice idea! This would be good for all sorts of things, not just CPAP items. Like sewing projects. Well, those without needles in them, of course.

Good job!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

My suggestion would be to make one long piece of plastic that hangs down, with the slots on that - it would take up less of that precious horizontal bar space!

I would be thrilled to have that kind of empty rod space!

I would be afraid of breaking the masks at their weakest point (everything seems to have a week point) such as the elbow, etc. In most closets they will end up smashed against the clothing unless you have a big enough closet for them to have their own space. I know I have a huge mask collection that would take up most of my rod.

How big are the vent holes? If they get clogged you still might have mildew/mold issues unless enough ventilation is present.

What about mesh bags instead?

Davidwnc, Sleepycarol,

Thanks for the suggestions! I have thought about making a version with multiple bags hanging from each other so it will occupy more vertical space and less horizontal rod space, but I haven't yet found a way that is up to my quality standards and is strong enough for multiple masks. A mesh material would be ideal for this option too, but at that point, it's a completely different product. I will definitely look into both suggestions!

Sleepycarol,

The two vent holes are about 1/4" in diameter each. But keep in mind too that you should always store your masks after they are dry. The vents are there just to make sure that the bag is not a sealed environment and will not actively trap any residual moisture.

Looks like something someone could use.

Its a slow day at work so i had a quick game of name the mask and could only get 3 out of 5.

Neat idea.

Here are my first thoughts as I look at that and how useful it might be to me.

a: rod space, very limited in our house
b: the clips used to hold the bag. From what I see they are of the same material as the bag itself correct? My concern would be twofold. The longevity of the actual loop (plastic vs metal and wear), in addition to the overall durability of something made of thin plastic hanging and overall lifespan of something that will get handled often. ie: opening and closing, pulling etc, given the closed loop over the rod itself.

I'm sort of thinking that a fabric type of system would last longer and prove to be more durable over time. Perhaps mostly fabric with a plastic window sewn in to identify the different masks.

I hope that makes sense to you. Just some thoughts from the practical side of my brain. GOOD LUCK!

Froro,

If you're talking about the hang tabs, no, they're not the same material as the bag. They are plastic, but it's much thicker and stiff. They attach to each side of the bag with adhesive and provide not only a double strength attachment point, but double the adhesion area. I cannot imagine that they would wear out, even against the metal clip. Also, the original intent of the product is to store "extra" masks, not the mask you wear everyday. The mask I wear most of the time, I leave hooked up to my machine and on my bed... So, my thought is that you're not going to use a MaskCloset everyday. Even so, unless you're very rough with it, I think it'll hold up quite well -- besides, it's only $5 bucks. If you look at the "hose bedding clips" that others are selling online, they're charging $5 bucks just for the clip and loop!

I agree that a fabric system would be more durable and could more easily be made into a multi-pocket vertical system, but it would also cost much more... Nevertheless, I'll still look into it. No promises and no time-frame...

Anyone interested in the MaskCloset really should take a look at the auction on cpapauction.com as I have nine pictures that show most of the important details about it. There are three currently listed, with a bid on one. I'll be listing them everyday as one-day auctions because I don't want people to have to wait days and days to get it. I have plenty of them available!

In the summer we have high humidity. I realize the masks need to be dried before placing them in the bags -- but even then, I have found my extra masks do better in cloth than in plastic for storage. This is just my own observation. I know they have some plastic bags out that they use for veggies and stuff that are supposed to be "breatheable". I know jammed against clothing those two holes you have in your bags could very well end up not providing much ventilation (again my own judgement from how my closet is) as the holes maybe covered in such a way not to let air circulate.
