New Masks rather than APAP

Post by bigheadr » Mon Aug 15, 2005 11:09 pm

I went to the new sleep doctor today and he recommends that I try a different mask rather than my Swift since he thinks that I am snoring because of leaks. So he wants me to try a regular mask along with a wider chin strap and then a full-face mask if the former doesn't work. If these don't work in a month, then he will prescribed an APAP. He said that there might a danger with an APAP because my pressure of 6-7 is so low that if I increase the pressure to 10 or 11 if I snore, I might get negative symtoms (like increase central apneas) I am going to the DME tomorrow to get fitted for my new mask. We will see if a new mask works. Which regular mask should I pick? I used the Profile Lite Medium in my titrating study and didn't seem to snore according to my old sleep clinic so I might use that. Alot of you like the Activa and I might look at that. I don't know which full-face mask to use. Any recommendations?

For what it costs t buy a 'FEW' more masks you could purchase a new auto unit. Especially at DME prices . I'd check out your docs relationship with the DME. ... Then they'll sell you a new auto ..

Hey Chrisp,

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!

Any Doc that says you have too many mask leaks so why don't you switch to a full face has never worn a full face mask.

The DME price for two more masks is the same as a good auto-pap from cpap.com.

Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

masks vs autopaps

My DME tells me the docs will push the cpaps over autopaps because with an autopap, who needs a sleep study? And then where's the money for the docs?

My doc told me to use an autopap for a while and when I get comfortable sleeping with a mask, he'll have me come back in for another sleep study to get re-titrated.

The doc's has no chance of getting me to subject myself to another sleep study
