Traveling with c-pap

Post by TRAVELGAL » Wed Aug 10, 2005 8:28 pm

This is my first time visiting this site--just discovered it after 7 years of c-pap use. I am looking for advice on traveling with my c-pap to China this fall. I will be having a 14 plus hour flight and feel that I'll need to use my c-pap during that time. I've checked with the airline and was informed that only Resmed is approved for on flight use. My insurance company is, thankfully, authorizing the purchase of a Resmed S8 for me (I've used my original Respironics Solo Plus for all of these 7 years so have had no experience with different models) I'm wondering if anyone else has actually used their c-pap on a flight and if so whether there were any problems (either mechanically or with the airline folks) that I should be aware of. Thanks for any advice.

See post on long flights for info or do a search for many posts on the subject.

I cannot believe only that one brand. What airline are you flying? I have never had trouble but I am a resmed fan. I personally don't like to use on a flight, but when I did, they did not question me, I just said it was life support and do they really want to stop me at their risk of litagation and they kept their distance. But really, I never had a real problem. If you need a plug in, only certain seats have this so you need to arrange this ahead of time.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the list, it's the best one out there.

Thanks. I'm traveling on United Airlines (Chicago to Shanghai) and want to operate off a plug-in rather than trying to set up a battery system. They said only Resmed has gone through the testing process to get approval for on-flight use.
