New Machine is Too Loud

Post by Edie » Wed Sep 29, 2004 4:34 pm

I've been using a REMstar Plus machine with the humidifier for the last month. Because my Dr. and I want a machine with the data that can be downloaded, my DME delivered a new machine today.

They delivered a REMstar Pro with C-Flex and Respironics Smart Card. This machine is LOUD! There is no way my husband or I will be able to sleep while it is operating.

They won't be able to get back to my house until tomorrow, but I'm wondering what my options will be then.

Is the noise level difference typical between these two machines or is it more likely that there is a problem with the new machine?

Do I need the C-Flex to get the Smart Card?

What information does the Smart Card record? Is it just date/time, duration at pressure, and ramp? Or does it record flow limitation events while using the CPAP?

I haven't been able to find anyone at my DME that can answer technical questions, so any help is appreciated.

The Remstar Pro is as quiet a cpap as Respironics makes. Something is wrong with the Pro.

All the new FRemstar Pro machines have c-flex. If you don't like it, it can be turned off. The Plus models do not have smart cards. One has c-flex, one does not.

Why do you need to know when YOU use the cpap? That is all the info available from the Pro. The Remstar Auto will give you pressure and airway response info and be much more useful.

Aha! Thanks for the information. The REMstar Auto is the one I need, then. Obviously I know that I'm using the CPAP every time I sleep

Thank you so very much for your swift reply and helpful information.
