My cpap is making grinding noises. What do I do?
Every once in a while, I wake up and hear my machine making strange grinding like noises. Do I need to lubricate it?
Grinding Sound from CPAP
I would send your unit off for service. A cpap machine isn't supposed to make a grinding sound. I wouldn't use it until it was either repaired or replaced, you never know if the thing will catch fire.
I have never heard of lubricating a cpap machine. That doesn't mean that you aren't supposed to do it, but I haven't seen it in the manual of a cpap to do that. Perhaps that is something that a service person would do?
Anyway, call or take your unit to the person you bought it from and start the process. I once sent a heated humidifier off to Respironics and it was about 3 weeks until I got it back. The gal at the DME told me that the time frame was the norm.
Best wishes,
T

Machine Repair
Hey-I had that happen once. My machine was about 6 years old-gottn on fine with it. That grinding noise and hi pitched whine at the same time. I went back to the people I got it from and they sent it back to the manufacturer for repair. It was out of warranty, so I had to pay, but all was well after that.
The machine made the noise and I had to be without it for about 3 weeks-torture. So, like my medications and my glasses, I have a second machine-a back up, just in case for next time. You know, it was a good investment to have the second machine, and since my insurance would not pay for the second one, I found a great internet site with wonderful prices. I got my old RX and placed the order. What a lifesaver to have the second machine and it was really easy ordering it.
Think about getting a second machine.

Machine Making Grinding Noises
Ouch, I hate it when anything I own makes a grinding noise, except a grinder..
I bought a backup machine recently. I got the Puritan Bennett 420g. It is very small, and great for weekend travel. I bought it at cpap.com. It was well under $350. What a steal. I think my old machine cost like $1500 on the insurance statement.
It is so quiet that I now use it as my main machine and my old Respironics unit is the backup machine.

Motor Locked?
Thank you all for the information. My Remstar did not turn on two weeks ago and my DME replaced it with a Fisherpayel. It is very quiet. I should have got a new one llong ago.
Motor locked?
Hoser,
Did you by any chance have the Respironics Remstar with C-flex?
If you did, was it any easier to breathe with the Remstar than with the Fisher & Paykel? Which do you like better?
