After reading so many posts with people listing such specific information about each nights sleep, I am getting the bug to want software and a card reader. Prices look to be a little over $200 for both. Is there any place to get them cheaper, or to purchase used ones?

Are you currently getting data from the LCD screen?
I've never used a ResMed machine and from what I've seen of some of the posted reports, it's extremely hard to understand what happened....compared to the Encore Pro/Viewer reports. So, I don't know if the software for them is really worth the money, but maybe it is.....

I suppose it is all in what you get used to. I find the EncorPro data confusing, especially their graphs, and find the AutoScan and ResScan MUCH easier to use and understand. The ONLY thing I like about EncorePro is the Daily Events by the Hour chart. THAT I wish AutoScan or ResScan would produce!!!

Yeah, I currently have access to the LCD screen "Efficeincy Data". Each morning I check my mask fit, leak rate and AHI. When I gen a treatment (prescribed at CPAP 9cm), my AHI was usually between 5 and 7. Because I have EPR, my 95% cm was 8.4, so I found out how go the clinical menu to change the settings. At first I went up to 9.6cm and my AHI changed to between 4 and 5. Then my wife notcied me snore a few times, so I went up to 10.6cm, and my AHI responded by averaging between 3 and 4.
Last night, after reading about the other capabilities of the S8 Vantage and several people maintaining an AHI below 1, I decided to try APAP. Based on some other postys I decided to set the minimum at my origonal presecription of 9 and the maximum at 13. I had a good night, with a few leaks issues, but had an AHI of 2.6, a leak rate of .43 and the 95%cm of 11. I was a little surprised to "split the middle of my range" so I might try a different minimum tonight and see if that makes any difference.
I am now interested in the software because, like many others, I seemed to be hooked on trying to get the best numbers (and thus, the best sleep) possible. I was just surprised by the price and am wondering how much beneift it will give me over what I get now.

Re: ResScan Software/Card Reader Question
The software costs what the software costs!soulrhythm wrote:Prices look to be a little over $200 for both. Is there any place to get them cheaper, or to purchase used ones?
You can get an equivalent card reader - its basically a ACR38 - off the web. However you wont get it from any of the xPAP suppliers and will need to find a supplier through Google. Expect to pay about US$45 to US$50 delivered.
You would need to figure out your own card guide for it, to get the ResScan card correctly aligned with the sensor in the reader. That is not hard to do, but it does require some work you will need to do for yourself.
As to whether you get $200 (or whatever) benefit from it, that really depends on whether you actually use the data on a long term basis. If you do, the actual Total Cost of Ownership for the data capture facility is a few cents a day.
I found it was well worthwhile, and have both an Resmed branded reader and an ACR38 with a home made card guide... they both work equally well.
Cheers,
Bill
