Dry Mouth with full face mask

Post by jbstevens30 » Thu Jun 05, 2025 6:11 pm

Using a Resmed 11 with a humidifier full face mask. I am a mouth breather when I sleep. Been using for 24 days and each and every night i get a really dry mouth and have to get a drink of water every time I wake up in the middle of the night, at least twice nightly.
I get 6-7 hours of CPAP each night.

Humidity level was at 4 for 1st week and now at level 6 but still get a really dry mouth and water will run out after 6-7 hours.

Anything else i can do?

My sister-in-law is a mouth breather and uses a nose cpap and when she sleeps, her mouth closes.

Is this something that would help me?

Thank you

1. Under my FFM, I use sleep strips to tape my lips and prevent my jaw from dropping - https://www.amazon.com/Mouth-Tape-Sleep ... _sspa?th=1

Have a consultation and discussion with an ENT. She will scope your upper airway and make some suggestions.

Mouth breathing is unhealthy whether or not the person has sleep apnea.

I've been using CPAP for 25 years and for almost all of those years I successfully used an Resmed P10 nasal cushion with my mouth taped with 3M Micropore tape. Then recently for some unknown reason, the wheel fell off. I began mouth breathing and snorting and blowing bubbles through my taped mouth. My wife, bless her soul, has buggered off into the spare bedroom and won't come back until I fix it. What I can tell you though, is that when mouth taping works, it works brilliantly. So if I were you I'd give it a go.

I have learned to live with my dry mouth for many years. It's a pain, but it's not to a point where I have to do anything about it. Can you live with it?

I had a really dry mouth for the first month. Now that I've gotten a cervical neck pillow, it has improved 80% and I can live with that. I just wish I could fall asleep quickly as I take two Trazodone nightly but doesn't seem to help much anymore. I just can't seem to turn my mind off most nights and the mind wanders about stupid stuff!

Trazadone never worked for me. I had to go with sleeping pills. Trazadone is more of an antidepressant. Just laying there breathing oxygen didn’t help me go to sleep.
