High pitched air noise when first turning AirSense 10 on

Post by tisket » Thu May 29, 2025 5:26 am

Recently I have noticed, regardless of mask, that when I first turn on my AirSense 10, for a few seconds it makes a high pitched noise as pressure is increasing. The pitch rises then suddenly the noise is gone. It is not a mechanical whine, but more of an "air being forced through a really tight space" kind of noise, like a very high pitched fart, or something leaking a bit before sealing. It stops immediately if I pull the mask away and let the pressure drop. It does not return when I snug the mask back on. If I turn the machine off for a few seconds then turn it back on it makes the noise again, though not as loudly or for as long.

I think this is a machine I got in November 2019 so maybe it is just nearing its end of life? Afraid it's going to die in the middle of the night. Wondering if I should stop using it and use another machine. It sounds more like some kind of internal leak than an engine problem to my untrained ear.

Is there any way to record it?
I have an aircurve10 if the hose is not fullu seated at any attachment point (machine, extension to mask, at mask fitting) i get an annoying whistle it also add to tne leak rate.
The last time it ended up being a hole whete my dof had chewed the mask and it was leaking.

I know you said it is only at startup.

Do you have the mask on?
My machine is set to auto start, sometimes when i pick up the mask the machine starts, but the mask is looped over my hand, restricting flow.

Medicare replaces cpap every 5 years, but you end up paying a portion for 13 months.
