Hi all,
I have been using CPAP for over 2 months and experience chest pain in 3 separate occasions.
Earlier this month I was woken up with some discomfort in chest. After removing the hybrid mask the discomfort went away. However my chest was in pain after several minutes and the pain was subsided. Prior to using the CPAP machine I had never experienced this before
I went to see the pulmonary specialist later in the week. He confirmed the pressure setting was not an issue. In fact the chest pain came back after a few minutes should not be related to the use of the CPAP machine. He recommended either do a body scan or consult with a cardiologist.
I have had 2 other episodes of chest pain in the next 3 weeks. Just had the third episode a few hours ago. I switched from the hybrid mask to nasal mask about a week. I woke up around 4am this morning and removed the mask to use the bathroom. I got back in bed and started checking my phone. The chest pain started about 30 minutes later. This made me to look for CPAP online forum for similar issues and advice.

Welcome, sorry to hear. By now you should be acclimated, do you know if your pressure is correlated with the pain? If you're on APAP and your machine takes you way high this could be the cause. Use a program like Oscar to examine your pressure graphs:2024CPAPee wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 5:26 amI have been using CPAP for over 2 months and experience chest pain in 3 separate occasions.

www.sleepfiles.com/oscar
and use a website like SleepHQ to share data here:
www.sleepfiles.com
... both free. Here's a night of my APAP:
https://sleephq.com/public/0a2adc38-6ac ... d330799694
Note how the pressure goes up and down. If your Max Pressure is set too high this can be fixed by reducing it... we don't know your settings, but if you share a night's data we'll have both the graphs and all the settings (it's anonymous). And if you put your machine and mask in your signature we'll know what you're using (see mine below).
Again, welcome, and sorry to hear of your pain... CPAP should not hurt!

Re: New User - chest pain
I agree with the others - unexplained chest pain should be treated with urgency.
At four in the morning? Not judging, but that is not very good sleep hygiene.I got back in bed and started checking my phone.

Hi,
Fear not, it isn't something crazy and neither are you. I am not saying don't go to the dr, just giving my information
When I started I had frequent chest pain if my pressure at night exceeded 16cm h2o... Over time I have gradually managed to tollerate more pressure.
This chest pain is generallized all over without being heavy can't breath feeling as a heartattack is.
I have an ASV machine which has more settings than a standard machine but -
my PS (pressure support) is set to 5~9 and my low/high to 6~10
so I can be anywhere from 11 to 19 minute to minute.
Now, where I am going with this applies to all types of machines or can
If I tuck my chin and my airway is blocked the machine pulses the air pressure over and over gradually raising the pressure until you start breathing or it won't go higher.
So, what was making my lungs hurt was the overpressure from when I untucked my chin and the high pressure was there inflating things like a ballon about to pop. Then the whole next day my chest hurt as it does when you inhale as much as you can and then do more...
describe something as chest pain and people will tell you see the Dr right away, which isn't always useful if you know that isn't it.... So, now you decide - see the dr or describe your pain in better detail.
