Off gassing

Post by Toni0000 » Thu Mar 30, 2023 10:46 pm

I'm new to apap. I don't find it terribly uncomfortable after adjusting the head gear.but can not use because I wake up sick from the chemical smell. I am sensitive to scents. My rt through the medical supply company obviously does not believe me. It looks like I will have to return machine since he acts like there is nothing that can be done and it's just me so deal with it.
Any suggestions?

Make sure your machine is not set to stop automaticaly.
Wash the mask
Connect mask and hose to the machine in the morning
Place the machine near an open window.
Let it run for some hours - 5 or even more.
This works for me with new equipment.

Don't do it in your bedroom, and do do it in a room which you can ventilate properly.

If you are using a humidifier make sure the water is full and hasn’t run dry…

Right

And make sure to put water in the humidifier for what I suggested above.

And make sure the power brick is not located too close to the CPAP (especially close to the air-intake).

The power bricks can get warm and even hot, with that they can emit strong, unpleasant smells.

This. Run it at fixed pressure for 8 hours three or four times.

If the smell of the mask itself bothers you, consider a sleepweaver cloth mask.
I have used advance and elan nasal masks, but not their full face mask.
That rt is a moron. Report them to their boss.

You can try soaking the tank, hoses, and mask in vinegar solution. That should neutralize the chemical smell.
