New to cpap and I feel like I’m suffocating

Post by BoyMom6375 » Wed Mar 29, 2023 1:50 pm

I’m on my third mask to try out and I still wake up feeling like I’m suffocating. I end up pulling the mask off many times during the night. Im miserable. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. My machine is a ResMed Airsense 10 Respond

Wow, so sorry to hear about this. I can't help you, I'm a noob, and have never experienced what you are going through, but the folks here are crazy knowledgeable, you'll get an answer.

Good luck to you and stick around here, people are super helpful. I'm sure someone will get you some techniques. I just feel bad for you.

Cheers,

John

I feel like I'm suffocating if I don't start out with enough pressure, myself. Therefore, I don't use the ramp feature on my machine. And I start out with a high-enough pressure that allows me to fall asleep easily. None of that may be your issue. But I share my experience in case it is helpful to you.
The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

Read the link that pugsy posted.

And also please help us out by being more specific about what you mean by "I still wake up feeling I'm suffocating".

New PAPers use "I feel like I'm suffocating" to describe two very different problems with very different solutions.

When you say you feel like you are suffocating, do you mean there is not enough air coming through the mask for you to inhale comfortably?

Or do you mean there is too much air coming through the mask for you to exhale comfortably?

welcome to the zoo!

do you happen to know what your pressure settings are?

also, could you look at your cpap and tell us exactly what it says on the front? "respond" isn't a model of resmed, at least as far as i know.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
