I have hoarded old CPAP stuff!

Post by Vampira » Sat Mar 18, 2023 5:57 pm

Haven’t visited the board in awhile, but OSA bad as ever! Ever since I got my first CPAP in 2003. - I have kept all my OLD machines and hoses and tanks and old everything except masks and stuff I’ve worn. Somehow thinking paranoidly that I may have a disruption in supplies or needed a back up machine. (Covid did not help!) I have a Philips Remstar (‘03) CPAP/Resmed S8(‘08) 2- PR System One M-series BiPAPS from ‘13 not in the recent recall. I am currently using my newest Resmed Aircurve VAUTO 10 since 2018. I have tubs full of stuff and no room in my cluttered house and am not using it. Obviously, the age of this stuff tells me it’s really no good to anyone, I think. Second Wind and places I have Googled don’t seem to carry such old machines. Would anyone suggest I just toss it all? Maaaaaybe I’d keep the last two M- series and a few hoses.
I cannot sleep without a BiPAP, but all the old and unused stuff can go?

I would offer them for free on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist or a local sales group. I think there are plenty of people who can't afford a machine and would be thrilled to have any working machine at all. I offered a friend's old machine up for free and got many replies. I would offer all the supplies to go with each machine, too.

I too hoard my old CPAP equipment. I always purchase used equipment that fits my needs. Some day my remaining relatives will have the pleasure of discarding all of it.

I'm in the same boat. My goal is to have three complete working setups with a battery backup that will work with any of them. I started out with an ammo box of stuff, then moved to a bin, which is now overflowing. Some of it has to go.

Pugsy must have rooms full of stuff.

would a separate section on the great pillow exchange "free legacy items" be helpful?

Nope.

Right now 2 machines only. The AirCurve 10 VAuto I currently use and a spare that is currently out on loan to someone.

One plastic tote of masks and stuff that slides under the bed....so not a big tote but I need to clean it out because most of it I won't ever use again.

Out in the she shed is another tote of donated stuff as well as some of my extra purchases of new stuff that I picked up Dec 2021 to use up FSA funds because I was losing the funds on Jan 1 2022.
Donated supplies have all but dried up what with most online sellers offering some sort of free return or swapping insurance.

My house is teeny tiny at approx 700 sq ft. I just don't have the room to go wild and crazy with the hoarding.
Remember I got other stuff to hoard besides cpap stuff.

Yes, I have bought many machines over the years but I don't keep them when I buy a new/used machine. I always have sold or given away (high hour) the surplus machine. At times I have had a spare for the spare but I haven't done that lately.

In my mind I would rather have the unused stuff being used by someone than sitting out in a tote in the she shed or hiding in my closet. I need to clean out the she shed big tote but I just haven't had the time or energy. Some life stuff has gotten in the way. I do know that I am out of the donations business so I don't want donated machines of ancient lineage.
No more telling people to "send your unwanted stuff to Pugsy"....I just can't do it anymore.

We can't really have separate sections within a topic/thread....or at least I have never figured out how to do it...like make sub sections.

My own preference for this sort of "house cleaning" is just a separate thread for the freebie stuff.
People don't always look in the great pillow thread and a new separate topic will tend to get more lookers and/or more activity.
