Adhesive rests on lips

Post by Herbert » Sat Mar 18, 2023 1:15 am

Dear folks,

as I'm only compliant with a nose mask but my mouth opens at night, I need to tape it (guess that's pretty common?!). So far so good. for me this technique works out really well. But since I do this it feels like I constantly have an adhesive film on my lips during the day. I don't feel it when my lips are dry. But as soon as I drink sth or wet my lips with my tongue I can feel like they are getting sticky again.

Does anyone here face the same issue? I mean it's not super uncomfortable, but still enough to post it here looking for advice. Also I'm not sure if it's unhealthy to constantly swallow mini bits of the adhesive of my tapes (BTW I use medical adhesive patch called 'Fixomull stretch'. it's tested fby dermatologist, but I guess only for external use :D)

1) Use a lip balm, a lip protecting salve on your lips -- e.g. Labello
2) After you put it on your lips, fold them in
3) Only now is the time to use the tape.

The lip balm creates a barrier between your lips and the adhesive, and folding them in protects them from the adhesive too.

by folding you mean rolling them in?! I do this anyway because otherwise it won't keep tight during the night. do you have an idea how to find out if the adhesive is harmful when swallowed?

I turn my lips in slightly BEFORE applying the tape.

Only when it is drunk by the bottle.

You could also switch to another tape. This is what I use:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BJ ... UTF8&psc=1

It leaves no residue at all. It can be removed and replaced. I use the same piece for a number of days.

pugsy-
you've created exactly the same string, so unlikely to work for herbert.

i think he has the right idea; it's because he uses amazon from another country.

let's see what herbert has to say.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Yes, that's what I meant [/quote]

None at all.
I too use the Medvance tape happily. And with this tape, I don't even need lip balm.

Concerning Amazon: since Herbert is in Berlin, his Amazon probably defaults to amazon.de.
But he can change it to amazon.com I don't think that caused the problem.

Here are three examples of links
  1. https://www.cpaptalk.com/
  2. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BJ ... UTF8&psc=1 -
  3. Medvance 2 inch on Amazon.com
The forum formatting software truncates long links (no.2); it doesn't show the full link; which means copying it from the post and pasting it in the browser won't work; the link will work if you click on it, or if you copy its full text from a quote window.
Whenever you want to make sure the named link (no. 3) can be trusted, look at it in the quote button.

I guess the problem is that I'm using my smartphone to be here. when I click the Amazon link it automatically tries to open it in de Amazon app, which seems to be confused with the US link...
