Inspire lacking inspiration - A mini rant

Post by zenichi » Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:17 pm

[I posted this on Reddit and felt obligated to also post it here...I should prob begin by thanking this community for the education and support I've gotten from reading these boards. It has made a world's difference for me when it comes to learning about CPAP treatment. Thank you. Also, I'm def not swiping at Inspire users here...if you're getting relief from the product, i'm genuinely happy for you.]

So I'm very new to CPAP (and this board) and have struggled for years with OSA, all the while knowing that I suffered from it. I think one of my biggest challenges has been accepting the "look" of CPAP treatment. The idea of donning a mask has just been so unappealing to me. I'm only now realizing how silly that perspective was when weighed against a serious health issue. I am intent on improving my health and addressing this issue.

This post is intended to share a bit of disappointment w/ Inspire, a product that appears promising to a certain segment of the population. The issue I have is with their marketing, specifically the TV spot that shows CPAP users in some therapy circle entitle "CPAP Support Group".

I work in this industry and everything about this ad offends me b/c it plays off of a person's insecurities w/ a medical treatment. The people in the ad wearing masks are essentially being made fun of and that's a piss poor and unethical strategy when marketing a medical device. Given, there have been plenty of generic ad campaigns for a plethora of products that make fun of user groups. I believe the line should be drawn at medical treatment marketing.

That's all I wanted to write and get off my chest. Inspire disrespects their customer base by trying to shame them into purchasing. The irony here is that their crappy ad has actually made me feel more enthusiastic and confident about my CPAP machine.

Screw you, Inspire.

Your mini rant is well justified.

In my area there are full page print newspaper ads touting Inspire. One of my friends gave me the ad in the event I was interested. Definitely NOT interested and thanked them for thinking of me.

I too have seen the advert you mentioned and found it awful. Also, the idea of having an implanted device is something I would never, ever consider. I’ve read posts elsewhere of people who have undergone the procedure and had it removed due to sleep disruption.

Thanks…I will stick with my lovely CPAP machine that has served me well the past couple of years.

Righteous rant about the ad. Haven’t seen it, but your description makes my blood boil.

PREACHING TO THE CHOIR!
The slimy approach speaks to the intent of the promoters.
"We don't care if it's the right treatment for you--WE JUST WANT YOUR MONEY."
