Airsense 11 offgassing

Post by David P. » Sun Mar 05, 2023 8:16 am

Greetings. Sleeping well? I do, until I wake up, and notice a toxic smell. Did you, in recent years, buy a new coffee drip brewer, only to have to return it because of a nasty smell coming from the black plastic in it? That's what is happening with my Airsense 11, with the same smell. It's only 8 months old, but the smell lately is almost toxic. Aerocare said it could be returned when I noticed it a few months ago, but after cleaning the water chamber with vinegar, the smell went away. It has returned with a vengance, even with a clean water chamber. Does anyone else have this problem? I read about the Philips recall, so I' m wondering if the Resmed's Airsense 11's smell is the same thing. Later in the day, my fingers smell like it, my chair smells like it, even my urine smells like it! I feel like I need to have testing done to see if I have toxins in my blood. I found this site and joined to see if any of you had experienced it. I'm calling my sleep doctor tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.

You might want to check with an ENT to see if your nose is OK, and also see if your furnace, etc. could have a problem.

Oh man, that is awful. You don't expect that kind of thing to happen to medical devices like the CPAP since you hook it up to your nose. I have an AS10 and never had any funky smells. Please keep us updated if you solve the problem of what is producing that toxic smell.

I have returned my AirSense 11 for a return to a 10 due to the off gassing chemical smell the 11 produced and the fact that the filters come apart. I have a photo of an AirSense 11 filter on a post here that so far, no one has replied to.

The filters for the AirSense 10 are now of loose fibers too, unlike older filters that have a sort of membrane that holds the fibers in. I wonder if these new fuzzy loose fiber filters that easily release a fiber are some batch defect or just the way they are now. I also wonder if the loose fibers can make it through the machine to the mask.

I sent a photo of the loose fiber filter to ResMed. My DME is befuddled concerning the filters and off gassing. ResMed replied that my email would be sent to the tech department. So far... crickets.

When the water level gets too low, I often notice a nasty smell.
Then I clean the tank--and all better!
Never let your tank run dry!!
I am not kidding!

a toxic smell.
Phrases like that amuse me, there's lots of things that stink and aren't harmful, and other things that are colorless and odorless that will kill you in no time at all.

No.

At least temporarily, I'm going to file this under Things That Never Happened.

I just got ny new Airsense 11. It smells like model car glue and burns my eys and throat when it's running. Last night was my fourth night on this machine and the smell was a little better. I thought it was the tubing producing this odor. I hope it stops soon.

Why would you be familiar with the smell of model car glue?
(Huffing is a very bad idea.)
New plastic, like in the hose and mask may have a very slight plastic-y scent.
Air it out by running it near an open window. (People steal off my porch.)
Most of us are unaffected by the "new cpap" smell.
Sorry if you are sensitive.
Place a pea size bit of Vicks on a cotton ball on the table near the intake.

I just got an Airsense 11 as a replacement for my "moo-ing" autoset 10. I soaked the new reservoir and hose in baking soda water to get rid of the plastic smell (rinsed thoroughly after, of course). There is definitely also a smell coming from the machine that reminds me of original listerine, but it's not too bad, just weird.

You're accusing this poster of huffing model car glue just because they know what it smells like?

I'm sorry but that's an incredibly stupid thing to say!!!

I assembled tons of models when I was a kid and I most certainly never huffed glue, and yet I know what it smells like.

IMO, you owe Bluper an apology.
