CPAP supplies at CVS

Post by LSAT » Fri Jan 01, 2021 8:31 pm

Someone on another site posted this picture of the CPAP display at her CVS. No RX needed.
This is only a partial picture.

"No RX needed."
I wonder where the location is.
And why . . .

Easy. Look closely at the packaging. None are complete mask packages but instead various packages of replacement parts which don't require a RX.

Pugsy:
That makes sense.
The fine print by the brochure rack directs one to visit the pharmacy for a machine.
We already know that a mask can be assembled out of parts--avoiding prescription.
But a glance at the prices just made me piddle a little.

There are quite a few in the north metro Atlanta area (Kennesaw, Marietta). I bought a new ResMed AirFit N30i setup separately and fell in love with it. Awesome convenience that I can go there for replacement parts easily. They sell CPAP machines, but I'm sure that will require a prescription. They had an AirSense 10 APAP on display.

The CVS stores that have these are called Health Hubs. They have labs available and I think (but cannot confirm) that they have basic imaging available as well. It really makes the rest of the store very crowded because they moved all the aisles extremely close together to make room for the medical supplies and exam rooms. Think of it as an advanced MinuteClinic.

I couldn't see most of the prices very well but from what I could see the prices are close to MSRP for those mask parts.
Most of us don't pay MSRP even when we self pay because we shop a bit differently but if someone is in a pinch and really needs something...this sort of availability could be a life saver.

Some time ago I made my semi annual trip to Vegas to see my daughter and grandson. This time over 4th of July holiday weekend.
Got there on Friday right before the 4th....Didn't realize until 11 PM I left the long hose from humidifier to mask back in Missouri. Oh, crap..screwed for sure. In Vegas it's only the casinos that don't close...the only place I found open that offered cpap hoses was clear across town and in a not so great part of town and a dirty little strip mall.

I paid $30 for a cheap generic stiff hose that I could get online for $6 and that includes shipping. When you really need something you don't care about the price.

If you go to CVS web site, they have a Health Hub search where you can find what's in your area. Good to know for emergencies.

this sounds good. will check out cvs next time in. here is a forbes article from feb 2020-

https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapse ... 312cf61186

seems these are pretty new at the time of the article and at that time only in four cities. let's hope this continues to roll out.

yeah, this would be really good for those folks out of town when their stuff breaks!

eta: yeah, looking good with this article from august 2020-

https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapse ... 312cf61186

doesn't seem odd to think of 2020 as "in the past"?
<sigh>
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Lucky. There is one WalMart 30 miles from my home, otherwise 90 miles to nearest shopping besides a grocery store or Ace Hardware. Not complaining really, even tho it sounds like it, but sometimes I do wish it were a little easier to shop.

This totally explains why my father's DME was suddenly bad mouthing Resmed.... "oh yeah, their machines burn up and their masks don't last", etc....

Interesting that you even found the hose. I was visiting my daughter in the Vegas area when my lancet-device broke (I am not diabetic but I track blood sugars for diet reasons) and CVS in Vegas didn't want to sell me one without a prescription. They finally agreed to sell me a package of disposable ones.

I generally avoid CVS.
Their stores smell funky.

Are masks returnable if they don't fit right?

From cpap.com, they are--and the prices are better.
