Resmed and Respironics compare
Resmed and Respironics compare
So due t the recall, I received a Respironics DS CPAP, but I also purchased a Resmed CPAP. My doctor said due to insurance issues, I must use Respironics, which they paid for?!! This way, I get free supplies. Ever since I returned to Respironics DS, I noticed two things. It is noisier, but my AHI number is remarkedly better! Same mask, same everything. With Respironics, I often hit 7 AHI (the average was not THAT bad). So how can this be? Setting pretty much the same Auto...

That's ridiculous. Your insurance company could care less what brand of machine you are using. Your supplies also can be any brand. All the insurance company wants to know is that you are using the machine regularly. Your doctor must verify this every year for you to continue to get supplies covered.

Somebody is feeding you a line of BULL.
Call him on it; and find another doctor in your insurance network.

See above comments, this is malarkey.
You say "remarkedly better" , please explain. Do you have OSCAR reports for both machines? That would provide a basis for determining if they are different/better.Ever since I returned to Respironics DS, I noticed two things. It is noisier, but my AHI number is remarkedly better! Re: Resmed and Respironics compare
Yes, I thought it was BS too, but what can you say when you go to the Medical office, and they laid this crap on you. I will not post any OScar data either take my world or not; I have no time or interest in deep analysis. Just accept my numbers are better now, so I stay with the noisy Dreamstation. I use the Resmed for travel as it is smaller (I took it to Europe last year) - BTW, I am considering changing medical groups... I have yet to receive a bill from Apria.

The average was still about 4-5, but I had these scary spikes that I seem not to have anymore.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 4:55 pmWhat was the average?
7 AHI is too high unless a good part of it is SWJ.

Re: Resmed and Respironics compare
An AHI of 7.0 would get you TREATMENT for your apnea, so neither machine is optimal.
Most of us are 0.2 to 0.5 AHI with treatment.
If you're interested in help to bring that down, you can ask. But it's hard to help without data.
Instead of caring which machine you are using (does your doctor get an illegal cut???), your doctor should be working on improving your therapy.

Re: Resmed and Respironics compare
With Respironics, I am under 3 AHI and the doctor does not seem to worry too much. I will post some data soon.
"The AHI is measured on a numeric scale. Scores for adults are divided into three categories, which correspond to different levels of OSA severity:
Mild: An AHI of at least five events per hour, but fewer than 15.
Moderate: An AHI of at least 15 events per hour, but fewer than 30.
Severe: An AHI of at least 30 events per hour."
https://www.sleepfoundation.org/sleep-apnea/ahi
How AHI is not accurate and oxygen levels should be measured which of course not that easy with a run of the mill CPAP equipment.

Re: Resmed and Respironics compare
Top jump off topic here is that really the normal? I was under the impression that under 5 was good and under 3 is really good? I came on here and got advice until my data got down to the 2 ish range then left it alone. I now run from a low 2 nights ago of ,9 to a high of 3.3 AHI. Am I correct that I need to keep tuning some more and maybe post up some charts etc?Janknitz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:40 pmAn AHI of 7.0 would get you TREATMENT for your apnea, so neither machine is optimal.

Re: Resmed and Respironics compare
5.0 is good for insurance companies and many medical professionals. Most members report they don't feel their best unless they are at 2.0 or even 1.0. (AHIs should be net of SWJ.)rotts4u wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:10 pmTop jump off topic here is that really the normal? I was under the impression that under 5 was good and under 3 is really good? Don't chase statistics. Check yourself at the end of the day - did you feel energetic throughout the day? Did you experience no excess sleepiness?
That said, you can still post a daily details report (in your own thread).

rotts4u wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:10 pmI know some people who say the only good "score" is zero, because anything else means you are still having apneas and even a few is not good. 5 is the cutoff for treatment, not optimal therapy, but I get suspicious when I see 0.0 every night that maybe the machine is not scoring properly. Once in a while, a 0.0 is realistic.Janknitz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:40 pmAn AHI of 7.0 would get you TREATMENT for your apnea, so neither machine is optimal.
