Re: New CPAP
What does "regular plastic" smell like? most plastic I've seen doesn't have any smell.

Re: New CPAP
Far away from bedtime do the following:
Spend some time sniffing your mask. Put the mask on and take a good whiff without turning the machine on. Is that the smell you're talking about?
Likewise, spend some time sniffing the hose. Is that the smell you are talking about?
Finally, sniff the humidifier tank. Is that the smell you are talking about?
Some of us are more sensitive to the smell of new things than others are. I do tend to notice the smell of a new mask cushion or a new hose for several days to a few weeks. As a result, when I can, I like to wash new masks and new hoses before I use them and let them air out in my bedroom for a couple of weeks before I start using them at night.

Yep. And then it goes away.
Re: New CPAP
Is this smell similar to "new car smell?"
In any case, try washing with soap and water. Alternately, try cleaning with viengar.

Re: New CPAP
Is anything else new besides the machine itself? And do see whether the humidifier tank seems to have a smell.

Re: New CPAP
Some people have more sensitive senses of smell than others. Palerider's nose must be so full of brimstone he can't smell anything else.
Many materials like those used with CPAP machines and supplies have a tendency to off-gas at first. I notice it whenever I get a new mask or cushion, a new hose and probably a new machine. If you have an alternate machine, you could let the new one air out for a bit. I try to let new supplies air out. It's unpleasant and probably not the best for human health to be breathing that in, but apnea is a lot worse for human health.

Re: New CPAP
Many materials do offgas, the silicone inside the machines often have a bit of an odor (that I usually liken to the smell of baby powder), but not quite. but the hard plastics usually don't smell like anything.Janknitz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 1:21 pmSome people have more sensitive senses of smell than others. So that's why I was asking "what does 'regular plastic' smell like"? because I'm trying to figure out what the OP is talking about.
Some soft plastics do have a smell because of the plasticizers, but once again, *what is it that the OP is talking about?" If we knew that, then we might be able to help, instead of just *guessing*.

Re: New CPAP
I vividly remember a baby doll I had as a child.
She was made of soft vinyl, scented like baby powder.
Funny, my cousin's Barbie dolls were unscented--maybe it's just as well . . .
What would a Barbie smell like, anyway?
