After 10 years, I Suddenly Cannot Get Enough Air

Post by miltown » Fri Jan 20, 2023 2:37 am

I’ve successfully used cpap for the past 10 years or so with minor tweaks here and there. Average AHI under 1.

Out of nowhere this week I’ve had to pull off my nasal pillow mask multiple times to feel like I could actually breathe. My pressure range on my AirSense 10 was between 12 and 18. I am about to change it to 14 to 20. 14 seems rather high but I need to try something. Curious if anyone has suggestions for other settings to play with. EPR perhaps?

Contact a physician to make sure you have no other health problems.

Is your nasal mask composed of two cones on each side, one inside the other?
If the inside cone flips inside out, the silicone is too floppy to use,
because it blocks airflow.

Thanks all. I am healthy and have no other health problems. It’s been years since I’ve seen a sleep specialist and now have an appointment to see one but it’s not for another month.

Chunkyfrog, the mask seems ok, not inside out. What else could it be equipment wise? Seems so bizarre to just start out of nowhere like this. Why would it suddenly feel difficult to pull air out? I’ve been waking up, pulling the mask off just to breathe freely. While I am overdue for a tube replacement I can’t see that being the cause . I have gone through settings to make sure nothing is askew. Nothing settings wise jumps out at me .

Not sure if this will help or not but I've been on therapy for a year. I started out at 4-20cm like most people who know nothing. Now my pressures starting are 7-8 and it barely feels like enough. I actually prefer the 8 starting pressure but my exhale pressure is the reason I start on 7cm instead of 8. I think our bodies are very good at changing and adapting.
