Very tired after CPAP use

Post by Cotterje » Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:49 pm

Hello. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I have been using the CPAP machine for eight nights so far. I’m getting between 6 to 7 hours of sleep per night and I haven’t gotten up for washroom breaks or taking my mask off. The machine indicates that my mask fit has been very good. So far I have not noticed any decrease in my overall tiredness throughout the day, in fact, today Has been the worst day by far feeling very tired immediately on waking up and continues. Is this normal or should I consider stopping this all together? Thanks.

welcome to the zoo!

it's going to take more than 8 nights, unfortunately. just how long can't be said as we are each different.

tell ya what, though. please see this post as it will help us to help you-viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html

for now, please fill in your equipment profile. once you do that, it will show up at the bottom of your posts, as mine does below.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.

Do you take any medications? If so, what?

If you're sleeping for 6 to 7 hours per night during your first week, you're doing better than many of us did! As Zonker says, it can just take longer to start feeling more rested.

The new experience may be allowing you to sleep but not yet allowing you to sleep as soundly as you will with time.

And you may have some "sleep debt" to pay off; more information here:
https://www.sleepfoundation.org/how-sle ... h-up-sleep

Finally, I wonder whether you're someone who won't feel fully rested until you can get in a solid 8 hours of sleep. You might give it a try to see whether it helps.

Once you let us know what kind of machine you have, we might be able to steer you to information on your machine about your AHI. Of course, you'll want to be sure it's way, WAY down from the "severe" level.
